Black Sheep Inn aims to provide a comfortable, educational
experience for guests, teaching them about the local area, local customs and
Permaculture, while contributing to and improving the local community and the
natural environment. Our goal is to be a leader in environmental stability and
ecotourism.
Eco-Permaculture Features include: solar panels, adobe construction, composting toilets, recycling, roofwater collectors, graywater systems, organic gardens, community education & aid work, reforestation, and erosion control.
Black Sheep Inn strives to live in harmony with nature and the community, without negatively impacting the environment. Projects on the property are reforestation with native species planted in swales to prevent erosion, solar water pump, composting toilets, roof water collectors, recycling of grey water, building out of local natural materials and more.
We are integral members of the local community and contribute to its development regularly. This includes, but is not limited to: teaching in the local school, helping with infrastructure such as computers, a copy machine and telephone lines, giving no interest loans, creating a small community public library - computer learning center and a local recycling center.
The village of Chugchilan has become revitalized with the new economy that tourism brings. There are now economic incentives that work against the typical youth migration to the city, for both education and jobs. Chugchilan has been put back on the map, due to the influx of ecotourism.
Black Sheep Inn is most well known for its composting toilets with a view. People feel good about recycling (even their own wastes) when they see that it can be comfortable, with no smells and even with a view. Our toilets have also incorporated collecting roof water for hand washing and small self irrigated gardens. The composting toilet whole structure and system is completely self sufficient and waste free!
