In business since 2008
Off The Map Tours organize cultural and adventure experiences in Mongolia. We have been in operation since 1998, and our emphasis is on providing a personal and friendly service to our clients, as well as offering itineraries, equipment and staff of a consistently high standard. The safety of our clients is a top priority and carefully managed. Mountain biking is our speciality, and we offer new routes, experienced staff and good quality, well maintained bicycles so that everyone gets maximum enjoyment from the tour. We also do hiking, horse riding and multi-activity trips which include camel riding and yak riding. All our trips have an emphasis on the fascinating cultural, geographical and historical aspects of Mongolia, including the nomadic lifestyle, Buddhist religion, Chinggis Khan and his Empire, the varied flora and fauna, and unusual geological formations. During the main tourist season, which lasts from June through to September, we have several fixed date group tours running, which are open to individuals and groups of people from all over the world. These are run as small group adventures with a maximum number of 12 people. We also organize personal tailor-made itineraries for families or groups of friends. Sometimes we do the ground operations for larger charity fund raising groups (30 + participants) who accept a tough challenge in Mongolia as a means of raising money for a charity back home. As an extension to our tours in Mongolia, we also arrange travel on the Trans Siberian train (between Beijing or Moscow and Ulaanbaatar) on an individual basis, with all services being arranged for stop overs in Russia and China through our excellent partners in those countries.

All staff, including local guides are trained in the importance and means for making minimum environmental and negative ecological impact.
The frequent meetings between locals and tourists tend to be spontaneous, though we rarely spend more than a day with a family or community. Our clients are well informed about Mongolian culture and etiquette and always show respect, friendliness and appreciation to their Mongolian hosts.
Revenue from our tourists solely benefits the people of Mongolia; our staff are Mongolian and the accommodation we use is owned by small local companies. Pack animals and riding animals are hired from local families, who are paid a fare wage for their service. Due to the seasonal nature of tourism in Mongolia, we are unable to employ most staff throughout the year.
Through training and the example shown by our tourists, the attitude of our Mongolian staff towards care of the environment, especially rubbish disposal, is exceptional. (Non-bio-degradeable rubbish is a relatively new problem for Mongolia, and remains largely unconsidered by local people).
