"Pura vida" - Costa Ricans' traditional greeting which is literally translated "pure life" - means to walk lightly, stop and smell the flowers, take it easy, and enjoy life. If you enjoy "soft adventure," work with our host partners on family-friendly service efforts with resourceful grass-roots agencies.

Local leaders near Santa Elena direct community development projects such as renovating buildings, landscaping public spaces, helping a women's community cooperative, painting classrooms, and improving eco-tourism. The variety of work changes from team to team, depending upon current needs. In a short time, your personal efforts and direct financial support through your service program fee helps the host communities realize their vision. Roll up your sleeves and make a genuine contribution to this amazing group of people!

"Although most young people don't have the time or money or have never volunteered before, more people my age should consider joining Global Volunteers, because it is such a good experience. You get a chance to see how other people live in different parts of the world. The feeling you get after helping people do something is indescribable."

Costa Rica Work Projects

Global Volunteers' unique philosophy of service ensures your work projects help advance the host community's current development vision and goals. Always serving at the invitation and under the direction of host community partners, each Global Volunteers team member works alongside local people, and personally contributes to needed project financing through their service program fee. Our long-term commitment to work in partnership on sustained community development projects enables you, in just a short time, to serve as a critical link in a chain of lasting community enhancements. Most of the work projects are labor-based and require light to heavy effort, such as constructing community centers or laying tile in a community health care center. Some childcare-related and tutoring assistance is also sometimes requested.
