For a small island, Sri Lanka offers a truly amazing variety of attractions and it's no surprise to see why Marco Polo once described it as "the finest island in the world". Shaped like a teardrop and measuring just 271 miles from north to south, this tropical escape is criss-crossed with rivers and waterfalls, spanning every kind of terrain from paradisiacal palm-fringed beaches to mountain peaks. Famed for its charmingly friendly people, impressive archaeological sites and its diverse and fascinating culture, Sri Lanka is bound to get under the skin of any traveller that reaches its magical shores.
This trip is designed to showcase the highlights of Sri Lanka, taking in the rich 'cultural triangle' while at the same time to venture into the wilds to explore some of the hidden gems. From the ruins and remains of ancient civilisations, to the lush jungles and tea plantations, we'll explore local villages, national parks and pilgrimage sites. Wildlife enthusiasts are in for a treat spotting elephant, leopard, monkeys and rare birdlife in Yala National Park and the chance to view blue whale, sperm whale, dolphin and turtles as we hit the high seas. This trip is a wonderful combination of adventure and relaxation and a must for anyone wanting to escape the British winter and experience a little slice of paradise...
