Itinerary
DAY 1 Arrival to Ljubljana
Arrive to Ljubljana and explore around the old part of the city. The quaint, narrow streets along the bank of the Ljubljanica River with its medieval bridges are reminiscent of Prague - without the crowds. The stories of the old - revealed under the 16th century fortification of Ljubljana Castle. Welcome dinner.

DAY 2 Ljubljana - Velika Planina - Bohinj
The adventure starts in the land of shepherds - Velika planina in Kamnisko-Savinjske Alps. A 4 hour picturesque hike gets us to the Great Highlands where some 50 wooden huts add up to the fantastic scenery. The special shape of the buildings with its conical roofs is unique in the area and some of them date far back in the history. Visit the friendly shepherds for a chance to try some curd and sour-milk. In the late afternoon, drive to glacier Lake Bohinj in alpine part of Slovenia, a perfect base for hikes in Triglav National Park.

DAY 3 Pokljuka plateau hike
In the early morning head for the Pokljuka plateau located at the foothills of the Julian Alps. Dense forest of Pokljuka is covered with blueberry bushes in the summer and in nice brown porcinis in the autumn. Tarry in a charming mountain hut where hospitable Mr. Joze serves his extraordinary blueberry brandy and delicious herbal tea all year round. In the afternoon, return to Bohinj Lake area.

DAY 4 Bohinj lake
Mysterious mist appears on glacial lake in the morning, hiding peaks that raise high above the water. Hike around the lake and explore its secluded beaches. From the lake, enter the gorge of Mostnica River, a natural wonder considered to be the most spectacular stream in the country. The trail leads you close enough to the river to easily spot trout swimming in the crystal-clear currents. Accommodation in Bohinj.

DAY 5 Bled and Blejski Vintgar gorge
Spend the whole day exploring Lake Bled and its surroundings. The bell tower of a medieval church rises proudly from a tiny islet in the midst of the lake guarded by the castle on the cliffs. Due to its picture postcard perfection, Bled is inevitably a place for an inquisitive eye. Hike through astonishing Blejski vintgar canyon. Finish a day in Bohinj.

DAY 6 Bohinj - Vrsic pass - Soca Trail - Kobarid
In the early morning we take a ride around Julian Alps en route to the valley of Soca river Soca, crossing the Vrsic pass (1625m). The pass used to be the border-line between Italy and Austro-Hungarian empire. The 96km long valley of the untamed Soca River is one of the few unspoilt rivers in the entire European Alps, and is particularly attractive because of its special emerald colour. Right below the pass discover the spring of Soca River and drink its pure mountain water. Start the hike from the spring along the river further down to the fairytale Trenta valley. A scenic drive along the winding road brings you to Kobarid, where you spend a night in an exclusive country inn with gourmet extravaganzas.

DAY 7 Kobarid - Goriska brda - Piran
Wake up with a brief walk to the hidden waterfall of Kozjek. Head down south, on a picturesque route across Goriska Brda. This hilly area that borders Italy is justifiably famous for growing the finest fruit and wine in the country. Visit local wine producers and enjoy some of best Slovenian wine, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Rebula. Continue to the medieval coastal town of Piran. Its tangle of streets in old town are still present from the age of the pirates.

DAY 8 Piran - UNESCO Skocjan Caves - Ljubljana
In the morning head to the underground world of Skocjan caves (UNESCO World Heritage Site) which is just in the hearts of world known Karst region. Slovenian Karst is the mother of all Karst and gave name to the landscape as far away as Guilin in southern China, Halong Bay in Vietnam and Vinales in Cuba. In a two hours walk through 5km of underground passages carved out by the Reka River, meet underground life at its best. Return to vibrant capital town of Ljubljana.
