Come experience Pennsylvania’s wild elk herd in an amazing setting with top notch guides. Mountain Trail Horse Center is partnering with Nature Quest, Inc. to provide a horseback adventure in a unique and private setting. Using horses allows you to go farther into the PA Wilds and get even closer to wildlife.

Nestled in over 1600 acres of private property is our exclusive Wykoff Run camp. From beautiful open places to deep woodlands, Wykoff Run offers endless options for wildlife viewing and nature photography. All Nature Quest camp trips are professionally guided by knowledgeable and professional staff. Your guide will help you spot Pennsylvania elk and many other beautiful species of flora and fauna that this area is famous for. Our campfire breakfast is a great way to start your day, and steaks over the fire at night is an even better way to finish it! These trips allow you a deeper immersion in the PA Wilds that you just can't get staying at a motel. Each season brings different opportunities - In the spring, returning bird species and emerging plants are abundant, in summer, the area is in full gear and the elk are calving, and fall is the best time for bugling bull elk - and the fall foliage colors are second to none. Our private camp is also located in some of the darkest skies on the east coast with minimal light pollution - ask about our guided stargazing options.

Horseback Elk Trek is the premiere wildlife watching excursion, where we travel deep into the most remote areas of the Pennsylvania Wilds, an area teeming with abundant wildlife. Of course, the feature species is the wild and free-ranging elk, but white-tailed deer, bobcats, black bear, coyotes, and many other species present once in a lifetime viewing opportunities every day. This is an extremely scenic landscape with sparkling streams and endless mountains visible from top-of-the-world vistas. Your expert guide will explain all about elk life history and management, as well as many other features of the elk habitat and the animals that live there.
