The highlight of the trip is sea kayaking and camping on remote islands in Loreto Bay National Marine Park, where the surrounding water is a sanctuary for blue-footed boobies, fin and blue whales, dolphins and sea lions.  The Sea of Cortez is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers the perfect blend of kayaking, hiking and snorkeling. Abundant wildlife, massive whales, sunny weather and warm, crystalline waters make the Sea of Cortez in Loreto Bay National Marine Park one of the best winter adventure destinations in North America and Mexico.

After the kayaking, you’ll discover the fascinating cultural history of California’s first mission in Loreto, built by Jesuits in 1697, then travel deep into the mountainous interior of Baja to visit the picturesque village of San Javier and the peninsula’s best-preserved mission church.  The ornate mission is still in use and sits in front of a scenic mountain backdrop with one cobblestone street leading down to the adobe and thatched-roof homes of the locals. You’ll also take in the historic Rancho Las Parras, one of the oldest ranches in the Californias, as well as hike a colorful arroyo, and view cave paintings along the way.

On this tour, your first and last nights will be hotel-based in Loreto with an extra hotel night between kayaking and visiting the missions.  All activities are led by naturalist guides, who dish out tasty chile relleno and margaritas in tented beach camps at days end.  You'll bring home a lifetime of memories.

"It was my best birthday ever. The scenery was spectacular & the whales did not disappoint. Our guides were exceptionally kind, flexible, accommodating, relaxed & knowledgeable (plants, birds, sea creatures, & stars). The food was way beyond my expectations & abundant. I was even baked a birthday cake (right on the beautiful beach where we were camping) & served cold Champaign. I expected a lot for my 60th BD & this trip far exceeded my expectations. "

"Since this was my first trip of this kind, I really didn't know exactly what to expect. However, the whole experience was just great…the people, the first-rate equipment, the area & nature, the guides, the food was wonderful, plus the weather and traveling connections. I especially appreciated the equipment list you sent. It all fit into my backpack and I was ready to go."
