Vienna is the most beautiful baroque city in Europe. It's a city of waltzes and opera music around every corner, of Old World elegance and cutting edge design, of wine, pastries and whipped cream. Vienna is a city of delicate spires overlooking imperial palaces and surreal gardens and the mighty Danube weaving through it all. For centuries, different nationalities have fused their cultural identities to produce the intriguing, cosmopolitan Viennese culture which gave birth to modernism: without Klimt, Schiele, Loos and Freud, the course of Western music, architecture, painting, science and literature might have turned out very differently.

There are few places in the world that are as splendid as the Austrian Alps. The scenery, from soaring peaks and shimmering lakes to blossom-covered meadows and brooding castles, is breathtaking. The dramatic setting of the city of Salzburg sets the stage for the surrounding Lake District, the Saltzkammergut, with its picture perfect alpine villages, painted houses and colorful markets. Due to its natural resources, salt and gold, this prosperous region has been on the map of human history since the Iron Age, and a strong commitment to the good life persists in fashionable spas and upscale pursuits. The Austrian Alps are also the setting of The Sound of Music, where the stunning natural beauty is both energizing and relaxing.

During the Vienna and the Alps Tour, you'll discover the best of Austria: the Imperial city of Vienna, laced with architectural marvels from its medieval past to the impossible surrealism, the baroque Salzburg studded with artistic jewels and veiled in the music of Mozart, and the lofty alpine vistas of Saltzkammergut, made famous in "The Sound of Music" movie. The focus of this tour is music, cuisine and history of Austria, but also creating lifetime memories and connecting with like-minded women travelers.

Day 3: After all the history and all the pastries of Vienna, today we'll venture out of the city to Vienna Woods and the picturesque Wachau Valley. In the morning, we'll take a scenic train ride to the baroque town of Melk on the Danube River, visit Melk's Benedictine Abbey, then enjoy a leisurely lunch aboard the riverboat as we cruise the Danube River through the storybook Wachau Valley, lined with castles, vineyards and monasteries, before arriving in Krems. Day 4: Today, we'll spend time getting to know the Viennese art scene. We'll start with a tour of the Vienna Opera House and the Dorotheum auction house featuring paintings, furnishings and antique jewelry. Afterwards, we'll tour the Kunshistorisches Museum, renowned for the works of Bruegel, Rubens and its celebrated Durer collections. Right before reaching our destination, we'll take a detour and follow the cliff road along Traunsee Lake to the imperial spa town of Bad Ischl. Seeming to float on the dark, brooding lake, Hallstatt is a site of an Iron Age civilization, and the oldest village in Europe, owing its prosperity to salt excavation. We'll spend some time exploring the village and the swan populated lake, then take the cable car up the spectacular Dachstein Mountain. From here, we'll visit the Giant Ice Caves and enjoy the exquisite panoramic views stretching in all directions from the Krippenstein.
