Each room is decorated with a different color, giving each room a unique feel. The “purple room” is basic and beautiful. The “red suite” upstairs is incredible, with a view of the famous Santuario de Monserrate on top of the hill. The beds are soothingly comfortable and the showers are deliciously hot.

Gian Paolo, the owner and emerald specialist, has decorated the hotel with beautiful artwork by Gustav Klimt. The lobby is scented with fresh flowers and the circular staircase leads you to your room. In the morning, classical music (often live guitar) drifts through the hallways, beckoning you to breakfast in a brightly colored nook.

Breakfast is lovely. You will have your choice of coffee, tea made from the leaf of the coca plant (to aid with elevation sickness or headache) and hot chocolate. Then there is the juice. Made freshly every day from local tropical fruits, they will bring it to you “sin azucar” – without sugar – so you may sweeten your liking. And then, like magic, your waitress will appear with warm croissants and fresh fruit. You will have your choice of scrambled eggs or an omelet. To complete it, choose from a variety of fixings such as ham, tomato, cheese, and onions. Enjoy.

Take in the view and the afternoon sun on the rooftop terrace as you sip a glass of wine or a local brew – for purchase at the hotel.

Dual flush toilets, all low energy appliances and lighting and double pained, insulated windows. Food options are all local and as organic as possible.
