Itinerary

DAY 1                     RIO DE JANEIRO

Arrival in Rio and overnight or continue to Cuiaba. Upon arrival transfer to Caceres by a/c vehicle.

Enjoy a wildlife safari by boat to our Paraguay riverside lodge. After dinner night safari for nocturnal animals.

 
DAY  2-4  JAGUAR SAFARI, TRACK ANACONDAS, TAIAMA ECOLOGICAL RESERVE

JAGUAR PHOTO SAFARI: Full-day boat safaris to photograph jaguars. This is one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in Brazil, with the highest density of jaguars in the world. Jaguars frequently hunt caimans along the riverbanks and are often seen at very close range for extended periods. We average 1.5 jaguars per day, and sometimes see as many as 7!


Wildlife:  Jaguars! Giant river otters, capybaras, caiman, howler and tufted capuchin monkeys, and 700 bird species including Jabaru stork, toucans, roseate spoonbills and more.

DAY 5 - 6          PANTANAL WILDLIFE SAFARIS BY JEEP, FOOT & HORSEBACK
Transfer to the Pixiam river and Alegre private reserve for safaris by jeep, foot and horseback in the heart of the Pantanal. Enjoy morning horseback riding through the forests and grasslands looking for Rheas, marsh deer, armadillos, storks, coaits, howler monkeys, black-tailed marmoset and more. Afternoon 4WD deep into the Pantanal through severl eco-systems, looking for endangered marsh deer, coati, anaconda, giant anteater, toco tucans, taipirs, armadillos, hyacinth macaws and more.   Night safari for Pumas, tapirs, anteaters and other night creatures.  Enjoy the authentic Brazilian cowboy feel of our lodge; a working cattle ranch and eco-lodge on 8,500 hectares of wetlands, savannah and forest. DAY 7          PANTANAL TO THE AMAZON

Witness the fascinating transition of eco-systems from the world’s largest wetlands to the world’s largest rainforest.  After an early morning excursion, transfer back toto Cuiaba in time for your flight to Alta Floresta, then continue deep into the Amazon to Cristalino Jungle Lodge.

DAY 8 - 11         AMAZONIA - CRISTALINO JUNGLE LODGE

Hike with expert naturalist guides to a canopy tower where you can see the rainforest canpy from above, and look for monkeys, macaws and other birds. Later choose to explore the Teles Pires island, where colorful parakeets, parrots, macaws and wood storks roost. Or hike to a rustic treehouse and nearby clay lick frequented by large mammals such as Brazilian tapir, collared & white-lipped peccaries, giant anteater and tamandua. Or boat upriver and hike amongst enormous Brazil nut trees.

Day 9              AMAZONIA - CRISTALINO JUNGLE LODGE & PRIMATE PROGRAM

PRIMATE PROGRAM Special excursions to see rare primates, including the tiny endemic Emilia’s Marmoset, red-nosed bearded Saki monkey, and nocturnal hike to see the owl-faced Feline Night-monkey.

Today and tomorrow enjoy Wild Planet Adventures special excursions to see some of the region's rarest primates. Hike Caja Trail for primates who fed on the caja fruit, and Scenery Trail, one of the most beautiful in the reserve with amazig views and many bromeliads, heliconias and orchids.

Day 10             AMAZONIA - CRISTALINO JUNGLE LODGE & PRIMATE PROGRAM

Magnificent canoeing on the Cristalino River through the Amazon rainforest. The crystalline river water is the life-blood for many birds and animals. Enjoy hiking throught native cocoa trees which attract many birds as well as anteaters, primates and armadillos. Continue our special Primate Program to see rare monkeys and primate siwht a night hike to see the fascinating Feline Night Monkey, also called "owl monkey."

Day 11             AMAZONIA - CRISTALINO JUNGLE LODGE & PRIMATE PROGRAM

Early hike on Tapiri Trail to see the white-whiskered spider monkey. Transfer to Alta Floresta in time for your flight back to Cuiaba. Upon arrival transfer to your flight to Rio and evening flights back to USA, or choose to overnight in Rio (at extra cost) or visit the breathtaking Iguasu Falls.
