Starting in Sesimbra, a small city by the sea in the Arrabida Natural Park, this is an incredible tour that will take you until the south-westernmost point in continental Europe, crossing two National Parks and an beautiful coastal line with 300km of beautiful beaches, and typical villages.

In Arrabida Natural Park you'll admire beautiful Mediterranean forest and the gorgeous cliff coast line with some stunning beaches of fine sand and clear sea water. You will ride along the coast and cross Sado river by boat, reaching the beautiful sand Troia Peninsula At the end of the second day cycling you will reach SW Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. It extends itself along the Portuguese coast and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. This SW landscape is 300 million years old and it is one of the most preserved landscapes in all of Europe; human intervention is less visible throughout the areas long history. Once submerged (about 2 million years ago), this is a vast area with many different coastal habitats and countless beaches and cliffs and isolated islets. This area boasts a diversity of rare botanical species, with very interesting flora and a variety of maritime birds that nest here and complete this beautiful and unique scenery. After 3 days riding 150km you will reach Cape S. Vicente, which is the south-westernmost point in continental Europe and a passing area for thousands of birds. Sagres, the place from where the brave Portuguese forefathers sailed on their caravels seeking new peoples and continents, and is where our tour ends.

The pleasant welcome in the villages and the rich culinary heritage of this region only serve to further ensure an unforgettable cycling holiday.

Enjoy quality lodging while discovering the many natural treasures of the South Coast of Portugal. A sunny and warm climate makes this tour possible most of the year. The cycling can be on only paved roads or a combination of paved and dirt/trail roads to get more coastal experiences.

    We have taken 2 cycling trips through this company, one to do the TDF climbs in the Alps and one for the TDF climbs in the Pyrenees. Both were great. These are self guided trips with good directions from the operator. Just got back from the Pyrenees. The cycling was challenging but that's why I went. The accomodations in Argeles were great. Centrally located(most of the climbs started within 1 mile from the hotel), beautiful grounds, extremely hospitable owners, very nice room, great meals [...] I can't say enough good things about the hotel(the Miramont), the owners and the organization of the trip as a whole. A cyclist has to be committed and in shape to do this trip.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival Day

Arriving from Lisbon or other city, we will transfer you to your first hotel in Sesimbra, a very nice 4 star property. Sesimbra is a small city by the sea in the Arrabida Natural Park and the perfect launching point for this cycling discovery. We come to meet you and deliver the tour bikes, and go over the tour with a short orientation of this scenic coastal bike ride. Night and dinner on your own. Your deluxe hotel overlooks the seaside and offers a central location in this charming village.

Day 2 | Ride Day, Arrabida Natural Park (54km - 10km offroad)

Riding up Arrabida Natural Park with amazing sea views from the cliffs. Boat cross of river Sado to reach Troia Peninsula. 54km, moderate with climbs. Lodging in 3* hotel on Comporta Beach. Dinner on your own, with our suggestion for a very upscale restaurant or casual family style dining. The tiny town is quiet and just along the seaside offers some picturesque views. You have a comfortable hotel with a very charming host who will attend to your needs. (B)

Day 3 | Ride Day, Troia Peninsula (77 km - 17km offroad)

Flat rolling on a road through the beautiful pine forests, arriving later at Porto Covo typical village, through a scenic road over the sea. Lodging in 3* Hotel. The ride start through rice fields and takes you to the coast along some dirt roads that will be quiet and scenic. You will spot storks and their nests in this region as they nest is the funniest of places like church bell towers and elctrical transmission poles. (B) Dinner on your own.

Day 4 | Ride Day, SW Alentejo (67-70 km - 30km offroad)

Ride on SW Alentejano Natural Park with amazing views over the sea and visit stunning Sardao cape. Ride near spectacular cliffs and visit typical village of Zambujeira. Lodging in a charming B&B. (B)

Day 5 | Ride Day, SW Alentejo and Algarve wild Coast (43-45 km - 20km offroad)

Continue riding along the Natural Park passing some villages over the sea and beautiful beaches along this wild coast. This day ends at the village Alijezur. Optional add on ride to the village of Arrifana on top of an amazing cliff with view. Lodging in Hostel 2*. Dinner on your own.

Day 6 | Ride Day, Algarve wild Coast (56-61km - 40 km offroad)

Ride South along Algarve wild coast till Cape S. Vicente - the southwestern-most point of Continental Europe. Lodging in Sagres in a 4* new hotel over the sea, surrounded by stunning deserted beaches. Dinner on your own. (B)

Day 7 | Loop Ride Day or Rest Day

Loop Ride discovering The beautiful beaches of the Natural Park. Same 4* hotel.

Day 8 | Departure Day

3H30 drive and farewell at Lisbon airport. Note, we can transfer to an Algarve airport in place of Lisbon. OPTION: extend this cycling tour by making this day a ride day to Lagos, approx 45 km with lodging available in Lagos.
