Itinerary

Day 1 - Costa Rica Arrival

Upon arrival in Costa Rica a representative will be present at the airport to assist you with your luggage and bring you to the hotel. In the evening enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 2 - Cartago - Tortuguero

After a delicious breakfast we will transfer to the Tortuguero Canals. After driving through the Turrialba, you can view the banana plantations just before arriving at the dock. Transfer by boat to the Lodge. This afternoon explore the area with your naturalist guide. Local attractions include: the butterfly farm, frog farm and garden, ranarium, aquarium, bio-digestor, and gardens.

Day 3 - Tortuguero

After breakfast departure by boat to the private trail where you will enjoy a guided walk into the tropical rainforest. In the afternoon you'll explore the canals by boat, you might even see some wildlife (Toucans, monkeys, perhaps crocodiles, etc). Tortuguero National Park is one of the most varied within the park system, with 11 ecological habitats, from high rainforest to herbaceous marsh communities. Fronting the sea is the seemingly endless expanse of beach. Behind that is a narrow lagoon, connected to the sea at one end and fed by a river at the other, which parallels the beach for its full 35-km length. The back of the lagoon is a coastal rainforest threaded by an infinite maze of serpentine channels and streams fed by rivers flowing from the central mountain ranges and by the torrential rains that fall in the area. On the periphery of the forest lies a complex of swamps.

Day 4 - Tortuguero - Puerto Viejo

After breakfast meet at main dock for return boat ride to Caño Blanco dock then transfer to South Caribbean. Afternoon visit Puerto Viejo Town and leisure time.

Day 5 - Puerto Viejo

After our delicious breakfast we will go to Cahuita National Park. In this place we will have a hiking and snorkeling tour with a local guide. He will explain to us the culture and history of the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. After Snorkeling, we will provide you with a tropical fruit based snack and bottled water, after which we will begin the second part of the tour, which is: hiking with trail interpretation. The guide will take you to different points between Cahuita Point and the town of Cahuita (5 km) observing various types of snakes (boas, bocaraca, bush master, eyelash vipers, etc.), sloths, white faced and howler monkeys, anteaters, armadillos, raccoons, blue morpho butterflies among others, birds and many more things such as: medicinal plants, orchids, trees, ferns, vertebrates, invertebrates, sea and earth shellfish, etc. After this tour we will go to Manzanillo Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches of the Caribbean Coast. Here we will enjoy a delicious lunch at Maxis Restaurant (not included). After this lunch you will enjoy some leisure time at the beach. In the late afternoon you will return to your hotel.

Day 6 - Puerto Viejo - San José

After breakfast we will visit Kekoldi, one of the most popular indigenous reserves. We will have a walking tour around this reserve. Keköldi Indigenous Reserve offers a unique glimpse of the Bribri and Cabecar culture. The members of Keköldi Wak ka Köneke Association will introduce you to their customs, typical meals, Bribri mythology and history. You will also learn about their efforts to protect the endangered green iguana and you may be lucky enough to witness the phenomenal raptor bird migration. After our walking tour we will enjoy a very special lunch. Afternoon transfer to San José for overnight.

Day 7 - Puerto Viejo - San José

After breakfast we will transfer you to the Juan Santamaria International Airport for your return flight home.
