Itinerary

Days 1-7
Ushuaia / At Sea / The Falkland Islands

After an overnight in the Patagonian town of Ushuaia on the Beagle Channel, we voyage to the Falklands Islands for fascinating encounters with Magellanic penguins, nesting gentoos, and dashing rockhopper penguins. We also visit Port Stanley, the quaint capital, then head out to sea, watching for whales as we cross the Antarctic Convergence.

Days 8-11
South Georgia Island

South Georgia is absolutely stunning?more than a hundred glaciers flow from its spine of mountains to the sea. Our Zodiacs take us to amazing places including the Salisbury Plain, with its elegant king penguins in the tens of thousands, and the Bay of Isles, where we find nesting wandering albatross and breeding colonies of fur seals. At Grytviken, a former whaling station, we visit the simple grave of legendary explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton.

Days 12-17
Scotia Sea / Antarctic Peninsula and its Islands

Antarctica is a spectacular wilderness of glaciated mountains rising above a cobalt sea. Our explorations may include the chinstrap penguin colonies of the Aitcho Islands, aptly named Paradise Bay, famed for towering tabular icebergs, and Pleneau Island, with its gentoo penguin rookeries. When we enter amazing Deception Island, we navigate through a narrow passage called Neptune’s Bellows and find ourselves in the magnificent ocean-filled crater of a collapsed volcano. This sea-filled volcanic crater has a natural thermal spring?bring your bathing suit for a hot soak in Antarctica! We also navigate through the sublime Lemaire Channel and watch for humpback, minke, and gray whales as we cruise the expansive Neumayer Channel. On all outings, our naturalists share their expertise and knowledge of this legendary corner of the world.

Days 18-20
Drake Passage / Ushuaia

Our journey comes full circle as we voyage across the famed Drake Passage and arrive in Ushuaia. Disembark on Day 20 and depart.
