In business since 1987
Our company evolved from the dreams of two – mine, the feisty bike racer, and Philip’s, the intrepid explorer: yin and yang, you might say. Our combined experiences contributed to our mutual outlook on how a perfect holiday might unfold. Keeping the group size on our Freewheeling Adventures small, and making service our priority, ensures that we can offer each and every one of you the freedom to experience what you want.
A good friend taunted me decades ago, tempting me to become a bicycle racer. I had considered it the most difficult of competitive pursuits, but I took on the discipline with vigour, in mid-winter. Being new to the gruelling world of endless training miles, I developed strategies to keeping happy while training: the bike must be kept light; scenery and terrain must be varied and enjoyable; plentiful and healthful food is essential; clothing must be perfectly suited to the conditions; mechanical difficulties must be avoided as much as possible; and help should be a phone call away. Surprisingly, I fell deeply in love with bicycling, so much so that I now think of myself as a cyclist – a touring cyclist. I have learned that the journey is the reward: Heck with the race! It’s more fun getting there.
Before it was an option to embark on a fully supported bicycling experience, travelling lightly over long distances by bike was a challenge. In addition to my tool kit, my luggage consisted of a fanny pack strapped to the handlebars, containing the essentials: credit card and some cash, sundress, snacks, sunscreen. Riding and singing over the miles, I would arrive at the home of my friend with a bottle of wine, ready to assist with supper, gardening, or assorted chores, and generally ensuring I was welcome to come again.
It is our very enjoyable business to hear your ideas about where you want to go, and how, and when, and even, eventually, why; and to help make it happen. Whatever your reasons: fitness benefits, exploration opportunities, the chance for adventure, spending quality time with family and friends, or eating well with a good appetite and a clear conscience, you make the world a better place by choosing to be an active traveller. We applaud you, and look forward to hearing from you.
