One goal of Batstar founders Blake and Rhonda Johnson is for the rhythm of the tides to replace the 24-hour time clock during the duration of the company's two- to 10-day sea kayaking and hiking trips in British Columbia's islands. You'll wake at dawn in your campsites on the sandy beaches of island chains to paddle water brimming with sea lions, porpoises, and humpback whales.

Hi Blake,
You and JF are both exceptional guides and wonderful cooks. I finally have the CD's with photos of Nuchatlitz and also of the Queen Charlottes. I am looking forward to our trip to the Broken Group in August.
Just a quick note to say thank you for the wonderful time we had sea kayaking in Nuchatlitz Provincial Park. Also thank you for the book on kayaking Vancouver Island, and the beautiful hand-made batstar.

Dear Blake, Rhonda and Liz,
Glenna and I would just like to thank you all again for a wonderful trip and perfectly executed introduction to kayaking on the west coast. Ever since we got back, we have been telling and re-telling our stories to our friends and family. We enjoyed everything–even the rain made it a REAL west coast experience–nothing artificial or staged about that!!We very much appreciated all you attention to detail, from the top quality gear that kept us warm, comfortable and safe–to the in depth understanding of flora, fauna and sea life–to the luxurious meals and friendly atmosphere of camp. It was a real 5-star experience in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. How often do you camp for five days on a beach on the edge of the open ocean without a shower and limited changes of clothes, and still come home feeling as you have been pampered.
We cannot say enough about Liz, - knowledgeable, diligent, attentive, fun, hardworking, professional - they demonstrated all these attributes. And as much as the kayaing is fun and the scenery spectacular, it is the people that make any experience special.

Well, we have now readjusted to full-thickness mattresses and lattes!(and Terry is on call this week which makes him remember the pager-free week all the more fondly ! )
I just wanted to get back to you to say thank you so much, it was a really wonderful trip. We loved the kayaking, the scenery , the intertidal biology, the food… and the fun !
We also thought you have the most wonderful guides and have only HUGE praise for the competence, efficiency, professionalism and permanent good-humour of both Erin & James.
We are all telling our friends & co-workers about Batstar, and hope we will be doing another trip soon ……
