Since we opened as a dude ranch in 1929, Mountain Sky Guest Ranch has topped the list of the nation's upscale guest ranch resorts.  The secret of our success lies not only with the breathtaking views, fine food, world-class facility and the many activities that we offer, but also with the staff that we assemble year after year.  When you arrive, you are welcomed into the Mountain Sky family by the warm and friendly employees that truly set us apart.  With a rebooking rate of over 80%, we've watched more than a few families grow together over the years.  Arrival days during our family season feel more like a family reunion than an orientation.  We're here not only to provide you with the best in Western hospitality, but to share with you our friendship, our experiences, and our passion for the land.

Just a 40 minute drive to the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park, Mountain Sky sits on nearly 9,000 acres of rugged, unspoiled Montana countryside.  Our trail rides and hikes will take guests along the heavily-forested banks of Big Creek, along dramatic ridgelines, and across sweeping expanses of open sage land.  Views of majestic Emigrant Peak, and of the Yellowstone River meandering through the aptly-named Paradise Valley, will be sure to take your breath away.  Wildlife and wildflowers can be found in abundance, and our knowledgeable wranglers and hiking guides are happy to educate on the flora, fauna, and the rich history of the area.

One of our most important offerings here at Mountain Sky is our kids program.  We realize the importance of providing the vacation experience of a lifetime for each and every member of your family, particularly the kids.  Our morning and afternoon sessions cater to children 6 and under who are too young to ride on our trails, and feature lead-line rides, crafts, nature walks, scavenger hunts, afternoons spent at the pool, and whatever else our inventive counselors can come up with.  During the evenings, youth of all ages, infant to teen, are invited to dine with the counselors and enjoy evening programming that caters more to their tastes.  Field games, camouflage capture-the-flag, a talent show, and off-site excursions to area attractions for the teens are just a few of the activities offered to keep our younger guests entertained.

Itinerary

Ranch Dining

For an unforgettable dining experience, just leave it to our chefs!  You'll soon find that our meals are one of the most memorable parts of your stay at the ranch.

Breakfast and lunch buffets are sumptuous spreads providing a variety of options for every taste, and dinners are gourmet 3 to 5 course plated affairs.  Bison tenderloin, Chilean sea bass, and truffled Portobello pasta are just a few examples of our evening entrees, and our chefs are happy to accommodate any dietary requirements.

Ranch Activities

Horseback riding is our primary draw, and our program includes rides for those of beginner, intermediate, or advanced skill levels, as well as arena instruction for those looking to learn the basics or hone their skills.  In addition, we offer guided hikes, yoga, fly-fishing instruction, whitewater rafting, horseback and van tours of Yellowstone National Park, clay target shooting, rock climbing, drift boat fishing, golf, and a variety of activities for children of all ages.

Ranch Lodging

Mountain Sky offers 30 guest cabins that can accommodate up to 80 guests.  Our carefully refurbished one, two and three bedroom cabins pair the comforts and quality of a high-end resort with the charm of the Old West, to create a look and feel we like to call rustic elegance.  Several of the cabins date back to 1929, when this authentic ranch first opened its doors to guests, and many feature a fireplace, large picture windows or porches to fully capture the breathtaking views.
