Itinerary

Day One

Rendezvous in Naples and transfer to a small town in the lofty hills, where we begin our 8 km (5 mile) walk along the aptly named Sentiero degli Dei - path of the Gods - enjoying extraordinary views of the coast and Capri. We are greeted by our friend, Salvatore, who prepares us a private lunch featuring scamorza grilled in lemon leaves, all served in a spectacular setting. Stroll into Positano, with time to relax in the hotel’s luxuriant garden or wander down to the sea. Tonight we dine at a favorite restaurant on the beach where fresh fish is artfully prepared.

Day Two

This morning we hop on the hydrofoil and zip out to the island of Capri. Our 10 km (6 mile) route brings us through the chic center of town and out to the lush, fragrant hills. We walk to the lookout of the Faraglioni, the enormous peculiar rocks jutting out of the sea, and to the Villa Jovis, once Tiberius’ pleasure palace, now crumbling away in a vividly evocative locale. In the late afternoon we return by boat to Positano. Tonight we dine in a hilltop trattoria noted for its grilled fare perfumed with wild herbs.

Day Three

Our 12 km (7.5 mile) walk begins near the unusual rock formation of Monte Pertuso, as we climb up a long flight of stone steps through a Mediterranean wood scented with wild rosemary. At the top of the climb, we continue along a quiet path to a tiny rustic eatery, where the locals know they can get a classic napoletano style meal, with the creamiest fresh mozzarella. After a relaxing lunch we continue along a pathway that wanders down the mountainside with astonishing views all the way to Positano. Free night for dinner on your own in town.

Day Four

We take a scenic boat ride to the town of Amalfi, once a great maritime power, and visit the glittering cathedral with its Moorish archways and radiant mosaics. Our 10 km (6 mile) walk follows ancient mule tracks as it loops through the hills to the town of Ravello, where we visit the scenic gardens of the Villa Cimbrone, with one of the best viewpoints on the Amalfi Coast. Tonight we dine on the terrace of a noted ristorante. As the soft colors of twilight fade into the sea, we toast to the end of a magical trip.

Day Five

Transfer to Naples train station. Arrivederci!
