Itinerary

Arrival Delhi

Transfer to hotel (Hotel Park or Qutub). Overnight hotel on bed and breakfast basis.


Delhi – Kullu – by flight. By road to Manali.

Departure transfer to domestic airport. On arrival in Kulu, transfer to hotel in Manali by road – a journey of one hour. Overnight hotel on full board basis.


Manali – Rohtang la – 3980 metres – Darcha – 3350 Metres – 08 hrs drive.

Journey up and over the Rohtang Pass and in to Lahoul valley. A relaxing way to acclimatise to the increasing altitude. The Rohtang is the gateway to a  new  culture and climate. Meals & overnight camp.

 
Darcha – Palamo – 3700 Metres – 04 hrs trek

An easy day with gradual ascent through grassy meadows will bring us to the small village of Chikka. Descent down to wooden bridge at Palamo. Cross the bridge and arrive the camp. Overnight & meals in camp.

 
Palamo – Chhumikanakpo- 4400m Mts. – 08 hrs trek

An easy morning a gentle walk along a rocky path will bring us to Sumdo River. Cross it over a suspension bridge and camp at Junction. We follow the Shingo Chu river steeply uphill amongst a wealth of Thyme , Forget-me- nots and Buttercups. Camp surrounding by snow peaks. Meals & overnight camp.

 
Chhumikanakpo – cross Shingo –la  – 5100 Metres – Lakhong – 4400 Metres     7 hrs trek

An early start while the snowfields are still frozen. Moraines lead to Cairns and prayer flags marking the summit of the Shingo La – the gateway to Zanskar valley. A steep descent follows (some of it on snow )to the river far below at Lakhong. Meals & overnight camp.

 
Lakhong – Kargiak – 4150 Metres – 05 hrs trek

Cross the Shingo River. Climb down a mass of fallen rocks, then cross several streams. Pass underneath the face Gumburanjon, then an easy descent to Kargiak. Meals & overnight camp.

 
Kargiak – Purne – 3630 Metres – 07 hrs trek

Easy ground takes us past stupas and Mani walls to a junction with the Baralacha la and Phirste la routes into Zanskar. A short distance beyond Tanze the Kargiak Chu River is crossed over a wooden bridge. An excellent path leads steadily to Testa village. The path continues downward near the river. Climb a gentle slope upto Yal. Steep descent towards a bridge, which you cross to get to Purne. Meals & overnight camp.

 
Purne – Phuktal – Purne – 04 hrs trek

Follow the Tsarap Chu River through magnificent scenery to Phuktal Gompa, spectacularly cut into the rock and home to a large number of yellow hat monks. A commemorative stone marks the passage through here of the early Tibetan explorer, Alexander Csomo de Koros. Return to camp at Purne. Meals & overnight camp.

 
Purne – Ichar – 3650 Metres – 06 hrs trek

The Tsarap River is crossed giving a fine view over the village of Char, and then we cross tributaries and continue in the main River gorge. Arrive at the large bridge, which leads to Ichar village. Interesting fortified village. Meals & overnight camp.

 
Ichar  – Raru – 3620 Metres –05 hrs trek

Monday: An early start allows us to cross to the other side of the river to visit the fortified village of Ichar. Retracing our footsteps we re-cross the river and follow its gorge to Raru. Meals & overnight camp

 
Raru – Padum – 3500 Metres – 05 hrs trek

Keeping to the west bank of the river we walk through a narrow defile and under the towering Barden Gompa. Onward past picturesque parts now having a majority of Muslims. Meals &  overnight camp

 
Padum

Trek to Karsha Gompa and return to Padum. Overnight Camp.


Padum – Rangdum – 3675 m. – 110 kms. 6/7 hrs drive

Drive over Pensila (4450 m) having magnificent views of many peaks just below the Drung – Drung Glacier that is the base for climbing Zanskar group of peaks. We descend down to our camp at Rangdum. Visit Rangdum Gompa. Overnight camp.


Rangdum Gompa – Mapolan - 3800m - 5 hrs trek

Follow the slightly more demanding part of the trek up along the river Kanji on the right bank and cross it to continue along the river with frequent ups and downs. Overnight camp.

 
Mapolan - base of Kanji La - 4150m  – 5hrs trek

Follow the path until finding yourself in front of narrow gorge. Today we cross several easy crossings. Good campsite.


Base of Kanji La – Cross Kanjila (5270m) – Base – 4300m – 7hrs trek

Follow the gorge until reaching the Kanji –la across a mass of fallen rocks. From the pass a  steep descent to the camp. Overnight camp.


Base – Kanji Village-3850m- 4 hrs trek

Crossing the river several times, we follow the trail on the right bank until seeing Kanji. Onwards , we cross and go along the left bank until reaching the village. Overnight camp.

 

Kanji – Yogma-la (4700m)  - Shillakong –4100m – 6 hrs trek

We follow the left bank of the river, which comes down form the Yogma-la. Crossing the river in front of small village, we fallow the valley leading to Yogmala. Descent to the Shillakong and arrive at the camp. Overnight Camp.


Shillakong – Shilla  - Lamayuru – 6 hrs trek

Today we fallow the trail that involves many river crossing till Shilla. The further trail fallow a narrow and dry gorge as far as the Prinkiti-la (3726m). From the pass an easy descent to the village of Lamayuru.  Overnight camp.

 
Lamayuru

Full day exploration of the Monastery. Overnight camp.

 
Lamayuru – Leh- drive – 5 hrs trek

We drive to Leh enroute visiting Alchi Monastery. Check-in Hotel in Leh . Overnight Hotel. ( Lha Ri Mo or Shamba la )

 
Leh: Optional Tibet Marathon, 5/10Km Run (end of August)

Day at leisure. Sightseeing of the Thikse monastery and local market ,Shanti Stupa etc


Leh – Delhi

Departure transfer to Airport.Arrival transfer in Delhi and o/n Hotel (Park / Qutub )    


Delhi departure

Late checkout today and after a dinner on your own ,transferred to the International airport for departure.
