Itinerary

Day 1: This expedition will begin at the Baltimore airport where the team will gather and then fly to the Kangerlussquaq Greenland airstrip on the west coast of Greenland. From there the group will connect with an internal flight on Air Greenland to Ilulissat home of the Unesco’s World Heritage Site the Icefjord. This is a spectacular flight with stunning views of mountain peaks and iceberg-dotted fjords. We will spend the night here enjoying a hike along the enormous Jacobsfjord admiring in awe its size.

Day 2: One more internal connection will see us land in Aasiaat. Located on the southern end of the large Disko Bay this is where we begin our paddling adventure. The day will be spent packing, organizing and paddling to our first nights camp. This stunning archipelago is home to a history of whaling by the native Greenlandic population followed later by the Dutch.

Day 3-6: Depending on weather, the group desires and conditions, we will paddle deeper into the multitude of islands over the next several days. The paddling route will take us past points and round headlands with a sharp eye for whales and other marine life this archipelago and Disko Bay are home to various whale species including the Humpback and Sperm species. To spend this much time in such a remote spot nearly assures a sighting. Sheltered bays and open passages highlight the varied paddling conditions with countless crags and caves to explore. Off the water the countryside offers rolling terrain dotted with fresh water ponds and lakes. Spongy moss provides a colorful palate to the rock and water we will call home. Our route provides excellent camping conditions and easy access to these rolling islands. Options abound!

Day 7: Breakfast and one final pack-up of boats will see us return to Aasisat for a return flight to Ilulissat and a welcome shower and celebration dinner.

Day 8: Return flight to Kangerlussquaq and Baltimore round out our Greenland adventure
