Marc, you have been a pleasure to work with. We know that our vacation last year was a once in a lifetime opportunity – neither of us had ever been on a vacation that long. We put ourselves in your hands and you and Bio Bio overachieved every step of the way.

The Fu is ‘FUN!’ Big water, blue skies, great group, horseback riding, kayaking, mountain biking, hot tubbing, massage, sauna, happy hours, card games, great food, and of course world class rafting…wow! Riding a horse, galloping through a meadow, surrounded by the snow-capped Patagonian peaks. I had never seen anything so beautiful. It made me cry. Thanks to Bio Bio for the excellent rafting, the in-camp luxury, and an overall unforgettable experience!

Hi Marc & Lawrence. I have to begin by thanking you both so much! I cannot begin to tell you how amazing this trip was for me. I know I sound dramatic, but it was life altering for me. I had an outstanding time and can’t wait till Zambezi.Gosh. I can’t tell you what a transition it was for me to return to NYC. Sub zero temps, the fast pace, and well my cuisine has taken a huge nose dive… I miss the river, snowcapped mountians, full moons, and most importantly the members of your team. I just wanted you to know what a great crew you’ve gotten together.

Itinerary

Day One
Arrive San José. You will be picked up the airport and taken to your hotel in the nation’s capital. Tonight the group meets up for a welcome toast by your trip leader and then you have the option to go out on the town for dinner. We’ll stay overnight at the four-star Hotel Indigo(cost of dinner, D, not included).

Day Two
From San José, we go on to the Rio Savegre (Class 3). This two-day adventure begins with an air transfer to San Isidro de el General, located on the southern slope of the Chirripo National Park. We will drive east to El Llano, a small town in the mountains where our whitewater adventure begins. After a safety talk by one of our professional bilingual guides, we will start running continuous class 3 and 4 rapids on the Rio Division, the main tributary to the Rio Savegre. The Savegre is one of the most pristine rivers in the country and it’s surrounded by impressive views of primary rainforest. The trip will continue through one of the most remote canyons on the Savegre where we’ll pass through rapids like “Cinderella” and “Malibu”. We arrive at the “Rafiki Safari Lodge” – a beautiful wilderness resort – where we will spend a peaceful night. We will sleep in luxury safari tents with private baths; have fire-heated hot water showers, and a swimming pool with a waterslide! (B + L + D)

    *A word about the Lodge:
The Rafiki Safari Lodge is a luxury tent camp in the rainforest just outside of Manuel Antonio National Park. The lodge is nestled on 750 acres of pristine jungle along the Rio Savegre, 30 km south of Quepos.

The luxury safari tents are set atop hardwood decks, each with rocking chairs so you can sit back and admire the view in privacy. Imported from South Africa, the tents' design lets you experience nature up close while keeping insects at bay. Each unit features it’s own modern, complete bathroom.

The lodge provides the perfect atmosphere and the property is a true nature retreat...this is hardly roughing it!

Day Three
Raft the Rio Savegre. After a good night’s rest, we will begin our second rafting day running La Boca del Diablo, an exciting class 3 rapid to wake us up. We will continue our descent on the Rio Savegre, running class 2 and 3 rapids all the way down to the bridge on the Pacific Coast Highway. This is where our transport will be waiting to meet us and drive us north to the Manuel Antonio region. We stay overnight at Manuel Antonio’s four-star Hotel Mariposa complete with swimming pools! (B + L)

Day Four
Hike in Manuel Antonio National Park, a day to enjoy as you please. Other options include exploring the seaside town of Quepos, or relaxing at the beautiful beaches of Manuel Antonio. Again, we stay overnight at the Hotel Mariposa. (B + L)

Day Five
We start with a relaxing day at the beach. In the afternoon, we have a short flight back to San Jose where we’ll check into the Hotel Indigo. (B)

Day Six
After an early morning departure from San José, we will travel east, driving through Braulio Carrillo National Park and enjoy breakfast at the Río Danta. We travel through banana plantations towards the Atlantic lowlands until we reach our starting point in the Tortuguero National Park Station on the Tortuguero River. Tortuguero is a lush tropical paradise with a series of navigable waterways for exploration. There are no roads in the park making it a true wilderness experience. This tropical sanctuary is home to over 300 species of birds and many animals. While most visitors to the park travel by motorized launch, we will explore the waterways by sea kayak – a much more active and fun way to quietly experience the flora and fauna. We will pull over for a delicious lunch and then continue meandering through the lush forest till late afternoon.

Upon our arrival at Mawamba Lodge, we will be welcomed with a cocktail and dinner soon thereafter. We stay overnight at Mawamba Lodge for two nights, enjoying its pristine location on a Caribbean beach. It also is complete with swimming pool, restaurant and bar, hammocks, Jacuzzi and breath taking views! (B + L + D)

Day Seven
We’ll paddle through the Tortuguero sanctuary area by sea kayak. After a great breakfast we will be shuttled by boat about 25 miles towards the Colorado River, passing through the Penitencia Canal until we arrive at Samay Laguna. Here we will board our kayaks for a three to four hour exploration of this area. The "magical" entrance to Laguna Nueve and a visit to the pristine beach will be one of today's highlights. Wonderful clean water and total solitude will be part of the experience. Lunch will be served along the way. Then a late afternoon return back to Mawamba Lodge. (B + L + D)

Day Eight
We transfer out from Mawamba and get ready for an action packed day! We start with a morning paddle designed to be very flexible with several options. You may want to visit Caño Palma Biological Station, or paddle to the Tortuguero hills for a morning hike. We say goodbye to this beautiful part of Costa Rica and drive to the Rio Pacuare stopping for lunch along the way. We arrive in the early afternoon to the put in for the Rio Pacuare. The Pacuare is one of Costa Rica’s more famous and glorious rivers. It is known through out the world for its fun whitewater and amazing jungle scenery! We will paddle a couple hours through some very fun class 3 rapids to the spectacular Rios Tropicales Jungle Lodge. This is a true paradise, complete with zip lines over the river, jungle walks, rainforest canopy tours, waterfalls and time to just relax in this amazing river canyon. Overnight at the Jungle Lodge. (B + L + D)
