Day 3: Jerusalem
Take in a sweeping view of the Old City from the Mount of Olives. After visiting Gethsemane, walk through the Four Quarters of the Old City of Jerusalem, viewing landmarks dating back 4,000 years, including the Dome of the Rock, Western Wall and Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Day 4: Jerusalem/Masada/ Bethlehem/Jerusalem
Drive along the Dead Sea to Masada, a grand fortress built by King Herod and scene of the last stand by the Zealots fighting the Romans; the impressive excavations reveal what life was like for the brave Israelite soldiers, who eventually took their own lives rather than be enslaved. This afternoon, visit the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, the place of Jesus’ birth.

Day 5: Jerusalem
Discover the Israel Museum, which houses the Shrine of the Book, resting place of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Continue to Yad Vashem, a leading institution in Shoah education and research; here you find a memorial honoring the Jewish lives lost to the Holocaust.

Day 6: Jerusalem/Jerash, Jordan/Amman
Drive overland via the Allenby Bridge into Jordan, where you visit the old Roman city of Jerash. Walk along the Street of Columns, where the grooves left by chariot wheels are still visible in its paving stones.

Day 7: Amman/Madaba/Wadi Rum/Petra
Scenic King’s Highway gives way to Madaba, called the “City of Mosaics” for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics and sixth-century mosaic map of the Holy Land. Continue to Wadi Rum, or “Valley of the Moon” in four-wheel-drive vehicles.

Day 8: Petra
Spend a full day exploring the once-thriving capital of Petra, which is carved from the very mountains surrounding it. Pass through the siq, a natural channel of rock leading to the Treasury. Later, have tea with a local Bedouin family.

Day 9: Petra/Amman
This afternoon, drive to the seven-hilled city of Amman, among the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Spend time exploring its downtown area, stopping at the Citadel, Great Temple of Amman and the Roman Theater. You may also choose to visit a local school supported by A&K Philanthropy.

Day 10: Amman/Cairo, Egypt
Fly to Egypt, and visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities in Cairo; among the 120,000 relics are some dating back to 4000 BC. The most fabled are those excavated from Tutankhamun’s tomb. It is also the site of the Mummy Room, where the remains of a number of kings and queens of Ancient Egypt — including the great Ramses II — are on exhibit.

Day 11: Cairo
Explore the grandeur of the 4,000-year-old Giza Plateau, site of the Great Pyramids and Great Sphinx. Take the opportunity to visit the Solar Boat Museum, where Cheops’ reconstructed funeral barge is displayed.

Day 12: Cairo
Learn about Cairo’s Islamic heritage at the Sultan Hassan Mosque and Madrasa. Then, explore the area from Bab el-Fotouh to bustling, historic Khan el-Khalili Bazaar before joining fellow travellers for a farewell dinner.
