The Alpine Climbing Course offers individuals the opportunity to learn and refine rock & ice climbing, and mountaineering skills. The course is designed to take skills and techniques that we have practiced and put them to use. We will attempt several climbs during the program that are intended to not only use our new skills but also to give participants confidence in their ability! A partial list of skills covered includes: anchors, belaying, rappelling, rope management, route finding, risk/hazard assessment, and crevasse rescue.

The focus of this course is developing solid climbing technique and there is ample time dedicated to climbing! The course is conducted in the mountains surrounding Haines. This is one of the most impressive mountain landscapes in the world and is an ideal setting for developing climbing skills. Our low participant to instructor ratio allows us the flexibility to accommodate individual expectations; you can progress as quickly as your ambition and ability allow! No previous experience is necessary.

Itinerary

HAINES: Haines Alaska is the starting/finishing place for this trip. Haines is a small community located along the majestic fjords at the top of the Inside Passage. The natural beauty and wilderness access in Haines has given it the much-deserved reputation as a center for wilderness adventure in Alaska.

GETTING TO THE MOUNTAINS: Depending on weather and route conditions a variety of modes for transportation are available. We utilize ski planes, snowcats, 4 wheel drive vehicles and sea worthy boats to ensure that travel into the mountains is safe and efficient.

THE MOUNTAINS: Haines borders Glacier Bay National Park The Park and the adjacent 27 million acres comprise the largest protected wilderness area on the planet. It is an extremely mountainous, glaciated, landscape containing several of the largest non-polar ice caps in the world. This terrain is uniquely suited to learning mountaineering skills, and the climbing here is truly spectacular!
