China, Pakistan & India - This totally unique itinerary takes us on a wonderful journey along the southern branch of the Old Silk Road. Starting in Kashgar where we will witness the famous Yakshmbe Bazaar - otherwise known as the Sunday Market - we will continue through the stunning mountains of northern Pakistan to the tranquil foothills of the Indian Himalayas. On a journey that traders, warriors, poets and pilgrims have been taking for millennia we will drive the famous Karakoram Highway - the eighth wonder of the world - through Hunza and the beautiful Fairy Meadows and on to Lahore. From here we will cross the border to the Sikh’s holy city of Amritsar, visit the Golden Temple and then head to mythical lands of Kashmir to relax in the mellow forest-clad mountains and on the regions tranquil lakes. All in all, this is an amazing adventure: a journey through a part of the world that will stay with you long after you have finished your travels...

Itinerary

Day 1: Tour starts in Beijing (China)

We meet at Beijing airport for our flight to Kashgar - one of the most important trading crossroads in Central Asia.
Day 2: In Kashgar

A full day to explore Kashgar. We visit the Aba Khoja tomb and the Silk Road Museum as well as the street markets.
Day 3: In Kashgar

Visit the mosque in the morning before experiencing Yakshambe Bazaar, one of the biggest in central Asia.
Day 4: Kashgar - Tashkurgan

Heading south on the Silk Road we come to Tashkurgan, famed for its old fortress which we visit. This is the start of the famed "Karakoram Highway" (KKH) which links Kashgar to Islamabad. It is one of the worldf's great drives.
Day 5: Tashkurgan - Gulmit

We start early to cross the border and later on head down to Gulmit through striking mountain scenery.
Day 6: Gulmit - Hunza

We use jeeps to drive to the spectacular Eagles Nest Hotel at 3000m, surrounded by 7000m peaks.
Day 7: In Hunza

There is plenty to do in this incredible location, or you may wish to just soak up the views.
Day 8: In Hunza

We have another day in this stunning area with opprtunities for walks, fort visits or just realxing with the locals.
Day 9: Hunza - Gilgit

Leaving Hunza, we continue along the KKH to the strategic town of Gilgit.
Day 10: Giligit - Fairy Meadows

Continuing south on the KKH, we make for another magical location beneath Nanga Parbat, the end of the Himalayas - Fairy Meadows. Inaccessible by vehicles, we will transfer the final on foot.
Day 11: In Fairy Meadows

Today we have the opportunity to walk through forested foothills to Nanga's Base Camp.
Day 12: Fairy Meadows - Niran

After returning to the road, we'll head for Chilas where we'll leave the KKH and take a lesser used route over the Babusa Pass to Niran. On arrival, we hope to go for a walk to meet some Kutchi nomads.
Day 13: Niran - Islamabad

We drive the final stretch of the highway into the capital of Pakistan, arriving mid-afternoon.
Days 14: Islamabad - Lahore

After a morning taking in the main sights of the Pakistani capital, we'll head for the "cultural capital" of Lahore.
Day 15: In Lahore

We have a full day here to visit the famous Ajeeb Ghar or 'wonder house', the Shalamar Gardens as well as driving the short distance to the Wagah border with India to observe the nightly "closing of the gate" ceremony.
Day 16: Lahore - Amriitsar (India)

Crossing over to India we will pay our respects at the Jallianwalla Barg before spending ample time at the wonderful Golden Temple. This evocative place is for many vistors to India more impressive than ther Taj Mahal, being as it is a living temple visited daily by thousands of Sikhs.
Day 17: Amritsar - Jammu

Today we begin our beautiful and evocative road journey towards Kashmir, stopping en route at Jammu.
Day 18: Jammu - Srinagar

We continue our journey and on arrival are transferred by shikara to our houseboat on Dal Lake.
Day 19: In Srinagar

Famous for its clean air and idyllic lake setting we can relax today in this haven of tranquillity.
Day 20: In Srinagar

There is still plenty to see here, such as the floating market, Moghul Gardens and ancient mosques.
Day 21: Srinagar - Delhi

We make the most of our gorgeous houseboat this morning before a flight and final dinner in Delhi.
