The Wild and Scenic Rogue River outside of Grants Pass in Southern Oregon, is the oldest and most popular white water rafting trip at Orange Torpedo Trips. Consistently regarded as one of the top 5 rafting trips in the country, this is the perfect vacation for families or adventurers who value a hot shower and a bed after their day running world-famous white water. The ability to float lodge to lodge on a “Wild and Scenic” river is just one of the many unique characteristics that separate rafting on the Rogue River from anywhere else. Spectacular wildlife, including bears, deer, eagles, and otters, along with world-class technical beginner white water and plenty of thrilling history, makes a few days in the canyon a truly unique all-around experience. Trips down the remote gorge become the getaway with your spouse, time with your kids or exciting vacation with friends you talk about for years.
On this wilderness trip, spend three or four days learning to paddle through numerous class II and III+ rapids, such as Grave Creek Falls, Tyee, Wildcat and the Coffee Pot. After days paddling and riding waves on the river, nights are in two or three pristine wilderness lodges, complete with a hot shower and a comfortable bed. The Wild and Scenic Rogue River rafting trip is ideal for anyone from the novice to the expert looking to run one of America’s best trips, so sign up today; this trip fills up early.

"Eric, I missed you on our return back to the shop following our three day Rogue River Kayaking trip. Wanted to let you know what an outstanding time my family had and thank you and your team for such a great adventure. This was our first time on the river, and the first time going down a river in our own boats. It was exciting, interesting, relaxing, all wrapped up in a single trip!
Thinking back, there were a number of things that made the trip great besides the scenery and the river:
Guides
Clearly, this makes or breaks the trip, and our guide team, led by Mike, were outstanding in their knowledge of the river, ability to work with client's range of abilities, and their general good spirits in making the trip fun while focussing on safety.
Equipment
The kayaks were great, but so was the large supply raft which my wife and daughter traded between. It was a good balance for them, while I liked the kayaks end to end.
Lodging/Meals
Although I hear the camping trip on the Snake River is a good time, it was nice to get some lazy boy treatment at the lodges along the river; great hospitality, hot shower, soft bed, and great food.
Good company
Icing on the cake was the group you put together 20 clients from different parts of the country with various backgrounds. This made it fun and interesting to connect with people you might not otherwise get the opportunity to converse with. With my family ranging in age from 14 to 50, we all found this a bonus.
My wife and kids can't wait to receive your DVD, as the pictures and video shows of our group were fun to watch at the lodge on the 2nd night. Anyway, I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that this was a great value and something we will look forward to again!
Thanks again, to you and your team. Paul"

"I just wanted to send a quick e-mail to thank you for a great trip last weekend. It was amazing as always! Everything was perfect: guides, water, weather, food, drink, lodges etc. As much as I thought I was going to miss not having some of my old favorite guides on the trip it was great to meet some new folks! Jen, Bill and Ted were new to me this year, however certainly not new to the river (I couldn't believe the years of experience on the water the crew had). They were great both on and off the water! Always good to see Hose, Tim and Grant, they are truly people that I look forward to seeing and spending time with every summer. I was telling Travis that I want to grow up to be Tim some day, unfortunately I think I missed my window. Those of us in the service industry don't always hear positive feedback and I want you to know that you and your crew have got this thing dialed in. The whole thing is really first rate and your staff provide great customer service (either you do a great job of hiring or there is just something about river guides (maybe a little of both)), that was my fourth OTT trip and you are batting 1000! Again, thank you for all that you and your staff do, you have provided me with life time memories!
Dan"
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at 8 AM at the Rogue River Center (210 Merlin Road, Merlin, OR) to meet your head guide and receive your trip orientation. (Arrive early to purchase any last-minute items.). While at the Rogue River Center your head guide will spend about 45 minutes discussing safety, river history, and paddling techniques. You will be supplied with all the equipment you need, including a life jacket, helmet (optional for anyone over 12), wet suit, splash-top, a dry bag for your personal items, and a community dry bag to store items you wish to access during the day—like a camera. When everyone is geared up and river ready, vans will be loaded and driven the 20 minutes to the put-in, At Alameda boat ramp you will meet the rest of your guides and head down the river. The trip starts off with a few warm up rapids before entering the Wild and Scenic section at Grave Creek. This is where the adventure really begins as the roads and civilization fade into the background. You’ll navigate famous Rogue River rapids such as Grave Creek Falls, Tyee, and Wild Cat on this first day. Sometime in the late afternoon the group will float into the first nights stop, Black Bar Lodge. Expect beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife, and delicious food as you relax into the evening. If you stay up late enough you might even see the famous Glow Stick Show.
Day 2: The second day is filled with plenty of rapids, history, and learning how to surf your torpedo. You will navigate Horseshoe Bend before arriving at the famous Mary’s Pothole. The group will stop here and you can re-run the rapid until you have had your fill. This is an opportunity to shoot photos and video of your family and friends trying to run this exciting wave. After lunch we will make a quick stop at Zane Grey’s historical cabin. A short float from the cabin and you are at Slagles’s Hole, where you can try your hand at surfing. This friendly hole is an ideal spot to learn how to ride the waves and perfect your great surfing moves like the paddle spin! When you are all surfed out, end the day at Marial Lodge. With its great food, hiking, scenery and atmosphere, you may never want to leave this historic Rogue River hideaway.
Day 3: The last day on the water starts off with a bang! Just around the corner from the lodge is the spectacular Mule Creek Canyon—a white water gorge that is truly unique. After Coffee Pot, comes the world famous Blossom Bar. Here we take a short portage around the upper part of the rapid before putting back in and running the fun lower section of this famous boulder garden. A challenging rapid for the rafts, you will find your Torpedo floats right through with little difficulty. After more rapids and a riverside lunch, the group arrives at the takeout, Foster Bar, early in the afternoon. Change out of your river clothes while the guides de-rig the rafts. After loading the vans it’s a 2-hour drive back to the Rogue River Center.
4 Day Trip Option: This is a great combination of the 1 day Rogue River near Galice and the 3 day Wild and Scenic Rogue River trip—perfect for the first-time Torpedo family. It gives first timers the a warm up day before joining with the standard 3 day trip. Meet your guides at the Rogue River Center (210 Merlin Road, Merlin, OR) at 8:30 AM. the day your 4-day trip starts.
This first day is the perfect opportunity to build your confidence in the inflatable kayak or raft before heading down into the Wild and Scenic Wilderness on the 3-day trip. This great addition to the 3 day option adds a beautiful 14-mile float that includes a picnic lunch and ends with dinner at the famous Morrison’s Lodge—can’t beat that for a day on the river!
At Morrison’s Lodge, a guide will give you dry bags for the 3-day trip and instruct you on how to use them. Be sure to pack your bags and be ready to go the next morning. After a hearty breakfast the Orange Torpedo Trips crew will pick you at 9 AM. From here you will be heading straight to the put-in to start the 3-day itinerary.
