Moab, Utah and its surrounding regions are world renowned for their incredible beauty and world-class mountain biking. Our La Sal Mountain loop encompasses a variety of riding conditions from the pine tree forested trails on day one, to the descent into Onion Creek and the desert valley on the second day.

Westwater's rapids on this trip are created when the swift flowing Colorado River is forced through Granite Canyon, a narrow seam of polished black schist capped with red slickrock towers. Virtually unknown 30 years ago, Westwater Canyon has become a favorite choice for its pace, rhythm, and intensity.

We had a fantastic trip, it was great 16 years ago and even better now with our boys! Holiday is the way to go for sure! The boys had the best time and as parents we got an A+ for organizing and surprising them with such an exciting plan. And now we are in trouble as the expectations for future vacations are very high. Missing spectacular Utah!

"Just want to thank you for everything and to let you know that I TOTALLY LOVED THE TRIP--WILL REMEMBER IT ALL MY LIFE!  I will never be the same after experiencing the river as we did!  Personally, I felt the entire trip was perfect.  What a great group of people Holiday has!  Our guides were great and we so enjoyed them.  The food was delicious, loved Clari, the yoga and massages, our hikes, the rapids, our campfire...perfect!"

I have done the white rim with holiday 5 times, and each trip is the highlight of the year for me.  The scenery is spectacular.  The bigger than life red rock spires and bluffs that are prevalent throughout the ride give an abundance of photo opportunities. Doing the ride in 3 or 4 days allows for enough time to take in the scenery, and still get plenty of biking in each day. The guides for each of my trips have created an atmosphere of lighthearted fun and excitement balanced with plenty of knowledge about the geography and native american indians who inhabited the area in the past.  I'm always impressed with the great food they prepare and the organization around the kitchen.  The white rim trip has always been an unforgettable experience.

We had a great time.  We appreciated the informed guides and  the educational experience they were able to provide.  Our 7 year old thinks it was the BEST trip ever!  The kids activity kit came in handy.  Making friendship bracelets and sand castles.  The ducky was his favorite!  Also, We never expected the food to be one of the highlights of a camping/rafting trip!

Itinerary

Day 1: Meet group at headquarters in Green River, Utah. A two-hour van ride to the Manti - La Sal National Forest marks the start of the trip. The first day's ride will take the group along old logging roads through forests consisting of huge ponderosa pine trees and abundant mountain streams. The trail continues to wind northward to altitudes upwards of 8000 feet. Camp on this evening is made at or near Bull Draw.

Day 2: Our ride today requires each and all to tighten their helmet straps and hold on! After a hot breakfast the route begins a breathtaking descent from alpine forest to desert floor. Along the way we'll take time out to appreciate the spectacular overlooks that are abundant in this region. By the end of the day we will have dropped 4,000 vertical feet to the desert floor.

Day 3: Put-in on the Colorado river at the Westwater Ranger Station. Relaxing float to Little Hole Canyon's natural amphitheater where shards of Indian pottery can be seen. In favorable conditions a short hike up Little Dolores Canyon reveals a beautiful desert waterfall and swimming hole. Camp near Little Dolores.

Day 4: Leisurely breakfast before rapids of Westwater. Rapids, one right after another, Marble, Staircase, Hunter's, Funnel Falls, and Surprise . . . lead to Skull Rapid, one of the Colorado's fiercest drops. Finish with Bowling Alley, Sock-it-to-me and Last Chance. Vans will return you to our headquarters in Green River at the end of the trip.
