Itinerary
Day 1 Transfer to Copan
You will be picked up from your hotel for a land transfer to the Copan ruins, passing through the western highlands of Honduras. You have the afternoon free to explore the 300 acre property on which your 100 year old hacienda is situated. Owned for years by the Cueva family this hacienda was converted in 2000 into an eco-lodge with aspirations of sustaining the beauty of its pristine environment.

Day 2 Copan
Today you have a privately guided tour of Copan, viewing some of the most excellent surviving art of Mesoamerica. This UNESCO World Heritage Site flourished during the Classic Era around the 5th century AD to the 9th century AD. At Copan you will find beautiful and intricate stelae artwork throughout the ruins as well as a large mesoamerican ballcourt. In the afternoon you will visit the town of Copan where you can enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to your hotel.

Day 3 Quirigua and the Rio Dulce
Today you will be picked up in the morning for a trip east to the Rio Dulce (sweet river), which winds its way through a 300 ft. gorge, steeped in tropical trees such as Teak, Mahogony and Palms. In route to the Rio Dulce area and the town of Livingston you will stop for a guided visit of the ruins of Quirigua, located along the lower Motagua River. After this visit you will continue east until you reach the town of Livingston where you will spend the night.

Day 4 Visit Castillo de San Felipe
In the morning you have a guided boat tour, visitng the Rio Dulce Canyon and Lake Izabal where you will make a visit to the Castillo de San Felipe. This castle was built to repel pirates from entering the lake and raiding supplies and harassing mule trains. In the afternoon you will have lunch in town before transferring back to Guatemala City and dropped off at your hotel.
Westin Camino Real (B,L)
Day 5 Return Home or Continue Traveling
In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the airport for your return flight home. Alternatively you can continue to explore some of the other attractions Central America has to offer. (B)
