Johnstone Strait off Vancouver Island, BC is the ideal location to go kayaking with orca whales and observe and photograph one of nature's truly magnificent mammals. The sleek, beautiful ebony and ivory orcas congregate in Johnstone Strait during the summer to feed, socialize and rub themselves on pebble beaches. On this kayaking with orca whales trip you will be on the lookout for orca pods while exploring the strait. Although there can be no guarantees, our dates represent the most opportune time to sea kayak and have an encounter of the orca kind.

I just wanted to let you know that I had an incredible time out in Victoria! The two trips you set up for me were a blast, especially the Botanical Beach hike along the Juan de Fuca Trail. The rainforest is truly amazing. All and all it was a great time and I think I may find myself making a home there in the next few years.

Thanks for your help in arranging my vacation to Vancouver Island. It was GREAT! The kayaking outfitter was very professional, their food was really good, the equipment excellent and their guide fantastic. I even enjoyed Victoria's city centre on a rented bicycle. Your hotel arrangements were good. I would really consider going back to Pacific Rim National Park again and maybe taking a friend with me. I will be checking your website all winter long as I remember a good trip.

The Yukon canoe trip was great. The only problem was that it ended too soon. I look forward to doing another trip with you next year.

Itinerary

Day 1:
We will take the BC Ferry from Tsawwassen to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. The crossing is about 2 hours. We will drive north along the Island Highway to our put-in point in Johnstone Strait & our first night's campsite for this kayaking bc trip.

Day 2 to 6:
Several factors, such as weather, tides, current, group ability, group goals, and the distribution of pods will ultimately decide our campsites, paddling time, and route, and as such, a day by day, precise itinerary, is undesirable & impractical. We have developed an itinerary which focuses on the areas in Johnstone Strait and which present the best chance of viewing orcas. By so doing, we hope to avoid the busier marine traffic around Telegraph Cove and the islands in that area. Along the way, there will be opportunities to explore the many coves, beaches, and marine life that characterize the strait. Different campsites are planned throughout our paddle. We will return to our put-in point on Day 7 and return to Vancouver sometime in the evening.
