Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive in Cape Town
Upon arrival in Cape Town, you will be welcomed by your Cox & Kings local representative and transferred to your hotel. Cape Town, internationally known for the majestic beauty of Table Mountain, is the “Mother City” of South Africa - the site of the first European landings and settlement in southern Africa. Cape Cadogan or Cape Grace – 3-nights

Day 2
Cape Town & Table Mountain
Board a cable car for the five-minute ride to the top of Table Mountain. Return to the city via the old Cape Malay Quarter for a walk through the botanical gardens. Stroll through the city to Greenmarket Square to browse its bustling market stalls. Drive to the Castle, then take in the Grand Parade where Nelson Mandela addressed the nation upon his release in 1990. Move on to the District Six Museum. Relish lunch at one of the city’s popular restaurants. (B, L)

Day 3
Cape Peninsula
Depart the city for the fishing village of Hout Bay. Here, board a boat to view the Cape Fur Seal colony on Duiker Island. Traverse Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the world’s most spectacular passes. Explore the rocky coastline and spot endemic fauna in the Cape of Good Hope National Park. Enjoy vistas from the famous Cape Point Lighthouse and visit the fabled Cape of Good Hope. After lunch at a coastal restaurant, visit Boulders Beach, for a close-up with a colony of African Penguins. Head home through fishing villages and seaside havens. (B, L)

Option: Spend a few hours in a tandem sea kayak. Take an easy paddle to view Boulders Beach’s colony of African penguins.

Day 4
To Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands
Venture into the magnificent Cape Winelands. In the Franschhoek Valley, settle into your charming hotel and enjoy a stroll through the town and into some of the local boutiques and restaurants. Franschhoek Country House or Le Quartier Français – 2-nights (B)

Day 5
Cape Winelands
Enjoy tastings of high-quality reds and whites as well as Cap Classiques (South African “Champagnes”) in areas including Stellenbosch, Simonsberg, Paarl and Franschhoek. Savor lunch at one of the many classic restaurants in the area. See the Afrikaans Language Monument with panoramic Boland views, historic Cape Dutch architecture in Stellenbosch and the idyllic Franschhoek Valley. (B, L)

Option: Instead of going through the Winelands by car, enjoy a bicycle ride between the estates for wine tastings with your cycling guide.

Day 6
To the Sabi Sand Game Reserve
Fly to Nelspruit’s Kruger Airport and on to your private game reserve in the Sabi Sand, bordering the famed Kruger National Park. Go on your first afternoon game drive, searching beyond sunset for Africa’s large mammals, rare birds and elusive big cats. MalaMala, Londolozi or Singita – 3-nights (B, L, D)

Days 7 & 8
Sabi Sand Game Reserve
Early-morning and afternoon game drives reveal the many species of animals and birds native to the region. Search for Africa’s “Big Five” — leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Your experienced ranger/guide takes you to the best spots for sighting game. (B, L, D)

Day 9
To Victoria Falls
This morning fly to Livingstone, Zambia. Referred to by the locals as “Mosi-oa-Tunya,” or the “Smoke that Thunders,” Victoria Falls is formed as the majestic Zambezi River races and then sharply drops over a wide basalt cliff. Royal Livingstone – 2-nights (B)

Day 10
Victoria Falls
Enjoy a private tour of the falls today, and take a relaxing sunset cruise on the Zambezi River where you can sip sundowners and enjoy one of the world’s most remarkable sunsets. (B)
