Namibia is a country of contrasts straddled between two
deserts—the Namib Desert along its coastline, and the
Kalahari in the eastern interior. This wonderful journey
explores a country of compelling beauty, unconfined space and
breathtaking scenery. Known as “the land God created in
anger,” Namibia’s surreal desert landscapes reach into infinity,
and its star-filled night skies are unrivalled.
Commence your adventure in Sossusvlei, home to the highest
sand dunes in the world. Explore the desert landscape and enjoy
the wildlife of the area, including springbok, gemsbok, and
ostrich. Ballooning safaris over the Namib offer an
extraordinary perspective over this amazing desert region. Your
scenic flight across the desert and along the Skeleton Coast
reveal ancient shipwrecks adrift in shifting sands and seals by
the thousands gathered upon the beaches.
Experience the vibrant wildlife of Ongava Private Game
Reserve, bordering Etosha National Park with easy access. Lion,
elephant, rhino, oryx (gemsbok), impala, zebra and other species
frequent this area. Game drives are possible in both Etosha
National Park and Ongava, which also allows night game
drives.
Continue to Serra Cafema, often thought to be the most remote
camp in Southern Africa, located in the extreme northwest
corner of Namibia. This region is home to the Himba, one of the
last true nomadic people in Africa. Serra Cafema offers one of
the cultural highlights of Namibia, the opportunity to witness
and interact with the Himba in their natural environment.
Namibia’s untouched wilderness will rival anything in Africa
for those who enjoy the excitement of wild and remote places.

Itinerary

Day 1 To Sossusvlei in The Namib Desert
Today transfer by light aircraft charter to the Namib Desert and
your first safari camp, Kulala Desert Lodge or similar (D)

Day 2 Sossusvlei & Namib Desert
Enjoy activities within Kulala and the Namib Desert. Kulala
Desert Lodge or similar (B, L, D)
Activities, including drives and walks, are focused on exploring
the nearby world-famous Sossusvlei, an enormous clay pan
flanked by the famous sand dunes that stand out starkly against
the blue sky. These dunes, the most well known being Big Daddy
or Dune 45, have developed over millions of years, the wind
continuously refashioning the contours of this red sand sea. The
vlei itself only fills after rare heavy rainfall when, in a complete
turn-around, it transforms into a spectacular turquoise lake. On
the edge of the Namib, the oldest desert in the world, wildlife is
fascinating in its adaptation to the harsh conditions. Sparse, yet
thrilling to see, are springbok, gemsbok, ostrich, bat-eared fox, the
rarely seen aardwolf and many small fauna.

Day 3 Fly to Ongava
Fly via Swakopmund and Palmwag to Ongava Private Game
Reserve, bordering the world-famous Etosha National Park in
northern Namibia. Ongava Tented Camp or similar (B, L, D)

Days 4 & 5 Ongava & Etosha National Park
Enjoy two full days of safari activities within Ongava and Etosha.
Ongava Tented Camp or similar (B, L, D)
Activities at Ongava revolve around day and night wildlifeviewing
drives, visiting hides that overlook waterholes and walks
with experienced guides. Game drives and daytrips into the easily
accessible Okaukuejo area of Etosha National Park are rewarding,
with sightings of lion, elephant, gemsbok, springbok, red
hartebeest, and white and black rhino. The Ongava Game Reserve
is unique in that it is one of the few private game reserves in
southern Africa where there is a chance of seeing both black and
white rhino.

Day 6 To Serra Cafema
Fly to Serra Cafema, located in the extreme, remote north of
Namibia. Serra Cafema Camp (B, L, D)

Day 7 Serra Cafema & Kunene
Enjoy a full day of desert and cultural actvities in the Kunene
region. Serra Cafema (B, L, D)
Activities include enjoying the breathtaking landscape scenes
from the great vantage points of camp: the pool shrinks beneath a
breathtaking escarpment to the south, and viewing decks
overlook the river, mountains and desert. Game viewing in this
area is limited to herds of gemsbok, springbok and Hartmann's
mountain zebra, dotted here and there. The Kunene River has a
large population of Nile crocodiles, an anomaly in a desert.
Burchell's Courser and Benguela Long-billed Lark are among the
characteristic bird species to be found in this area. There are also a
number of endemic reptiles, the desert chameleon being a
particular specialty. Search for life over endless sand dunes in 4x4
Land Rovers and journey on the Kunene River by boat. Walking
in the remote mountain and river valleys is also a highlight. One
of the highlights of Serra Cafema is the carefully guided quad-bike
excursions that tread lightly on the dunes, while allowing guests
to experience a true desert.
Serra Cafema is often visited by the native Ovahimba families
who live in the nearby vicinity, which gives guests the
opportunity to learn about their lifestyle and traditions.

Day 8 Fly to Windhoek
Fly to Windhoek for your onward arrangements. (B)
