Take the August holiday long weekend to introduce your adventuring family to a fully guided & outfitted sea kayak adventure on majestic Lake Superior.
Your family adventure begins on Friday afternoon with a half day of group sea kayak and safety instruction on the warmer waters of the Michipicoten River at our Rock Island Lodge adjacent to Lake Superior. That evening, we enjoy a delicious BBQ, trip orientation and a beautiful western sky. Overnight in tents or yurts on our beach or at additional cost, in our lodge.
Saturday, Sunday and Monday to mid-afternoon we paddle in double and single sea kayaks westwards along the Lake Superior coast, camping on a secluded white, sandy beach. This section is part of the new Lake Superior Highlands Conservation Reserve and has plenty of beautiful sand and cobble beaches, rocky bedrock outcrops and hidden waterfalls. The deep green boreal forests are highlighted by rare Arctic disjunct plants and possibly a wide variety wildlife including moose, fox, beaver, eagles, falcons, loons and otters.
Lake Superior is mostly calm in summer, but when it gets rough, we will enjoy the view from shore or your guide will select an alternative sea kayaking route in Lake Superior Park. Your guides have advanced wilderness first aid, sea kayak paddling and sea kayak guide course certifications. They know and love Lake Superior and want to share their knowledge with your family. Your safety is their primary concern. They are also wonderful wilderness chefs and "on trip" meals are healthy, fresh and delicious (no freeze dried stuff here!). We can accommodate most special diets.
