While most other North American mountain bike hot spots are covered with snow, we are fortunate to enjoy prime riding in the heart of the Mojave Desert at Death Valley National Park and Red Rock Canyon.

Leaving the tourist spots behind, we mountain bike into the surprising backcountry of Death Valley. Our first ride, Dante's View, is a 6,000-foot descent from the abrupt peaks behind Badwater to the golden foothills of Mustard Canyon. A ride along an ancient mining track to the top of Chloride Cliffs reveals both the highest and lowest points in the contiguous United States, from a single vantage point! Abandoned crystal mines await our exploration, while a deep, narrowing canyon takes us past petroglyphs and ghost towns. A seldom-traveled dirt road winds right over the top of Keystone Thrust into the backside of Red Rock Canyon. Finally, two days of non-stop wild mustang trails complete our appreciation for the untamed Spirit of the Mojave!

Itinerary

Day 1 | Death Valley National Park, Artist Drive
After meeting in Las Vegas we shuttle to Death Valley National Park to begin our ride. We stretch our legs with visits to Furnace Creek Resort, Badwater (the lowest, driest & hottest spot in the US) and the National Park's Visitor Center. Then we unload the bikes and ride Artist's Drive--an area so rich with mineral diversity, it resembles a larger-than-life painter’s palette. The scenic loop ride is a great way to become aqauinted with Death Valley. After a full day of historical sightseeing and riding, we shuttle to the western edge of the park where we'll set up camp in the vast playa of the Panamint Valley.
Total Mileage | 15 miles + sightseeing Camp | Panamint Valley
Terrain | 100% Paved Road, 100% Van Support

Day 2 | Darwin Canyon
From camp we have a short commute to Darwin Canyon where a short uphill workout begins our ride. After a fun descent to China Garden Spring we hop off our bikes for a technical hike that will eventually bring us to the remarkable Darwin Falls. The water from the falls brings a burst of vibrant life to the area with lush, green foliage lining the streams, and even peaking up from in between rocks. After a refreshing dip in the pool beneath the falls, we climb back out of the canyon and ride a brusque singletrack along the side of Zinc Hill, before beginning the long descent back to camp.
Total Mileage | 25 miles + 4 miles hiking Camp | Panamint Valley
Terrain | Jeep Road & Singletrack

Day 3 | Auguereberry Point, Stovepipe Wells, Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes
We begin today's ride just past Emigrant Pass, in the ghost town of Harrisburg. Passing the remnants of Eureka Mine and the Aguereberry Mining Camp, we follow an old dirt road up to Auguereberry Point. It's a climb, but it brings us up to one of the most tremendous views in Death Valley! We return down the road to enjoy lunch at the ghost town. After lunch we descend all the way back to Emigrant Springs and continue on down to Stovepipe Wells.
Stovepipe Wells offers us an opportunity to take a much-needed shower. We emerge rejuvenated for our afternoon hike onto the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes.
The Dunes offer a spectacular view of the Death Valley vista, but the best is yet to come. When our shuttle reaches Monarch Canyon our camp for the next two nights, you'll revel in the best view Death Valley has to offer!
Total Mileage | 10-40 miles Camp | Monarch Canyon
Terrain | 100% Jeep Road

Day 4 | Titus Canyon or Chloride Cliffs
We'll pick today's adventure based on trail conditions and/or the group's preference:
Option 1: Titus Canyon - A short 20 minute shuttle takes us to Titus Canyon where we’ll ride up and over White Pass and Red Pass to the top of the Grapevine Mountains. The reward for our climb? A scenic 5,600-foot descent through Titus' increasingly narrow canyon walls to the valley floor. After this spectacular ride we’ll shuttle back to our camp in Monarch Canyon.
Option 2: Chloride Cliffs - Leaving camp, we ride up the old Chloride Cliffs jeep road for a rare king-of-the-hill view of both the Badwater lowlands and Mt. Whitney. Today’s highlight is a chance to prospect abandoned crystal mines in the top of the mountain. Later, we’ll descend nearly 2,000 feet back to camp! In the afternoon, an optional two-mile hike through Monarch Canyon offers the opportunity to explore a ghosted stamping mill and a clear portal view from atop a seasonal waterfall.
Total Mileage | 14-30 miles + 2 mile hike Camp | Monarch Canyon
Terrain | 100% Jeep Road

Day 5 | Rhyolite, Cottonwood Valley
After packing up, we begin our shuttle to Red Rock Canyon where we’ll spend our final night in the desert. On our way, we stop to visit Rhyolite, a restored ghost town. If you keep an open mind, you may even see a few ghosts yourself!
After lunch in Red Rock, get ready for some of the fastest singletrack in the west! We'll follow the Dead Horse Loop trail - the original NORBA trail of Red Rock Canyon. An initial climb brings us to Wilson Tank Overlook and terrific views, including of Las Vegas which lies 25 miles to the east. We call the long descent down Red Valley at the end of the ride “
“three-mile smile" for a reason; enjoy!
Total Mileage | 14-20 miles Inn | Bonnie Springs Ranch
Terrain | Singletrack and Doubletrack, No Van Support

Day 6 | The Mustang Trails
We start our final day riding Red Rock's Mustang Trail singletrack system. Initially stomped out by horses and burros over 100 years ago, these trails are now shared by mountain bikers and wild mustang descendents who roam free and protected in the National Conservation Area. We then ride to the small town of Blue Diamond for lunch before shuttling back to Las Vegas.
Total Mileage | 12-15 miles
Terrain | 100% Singletrack, No Van Support
