    Nothing got us ready for the Thomson Safari way of doing things. First class all the way. From our accommodations, to food, to our transportation in the new and top shelf Land Rovers. The Nyumbas are splendid. I slept like a baby every night!

Days 1-2
Depart North America / Arrive Arusha, Tanzania

Connect in Amsterdam with your flight to Kilimanjaro Airport, arriving late evening. You will be met by Thomson Safaris staff and transferred to your lodge. We can arrange your international flights, please call for competitive pricing and availability.

Overnight: Rivertrees Country Inn

 

Day 3
Arusha

Arusha is a small, thriving city and hub for tourism that has become known as the “Geneva of Africa.” Today your guide will lead you through local markets where vendors are selling a variety of goods to the community. You will get a taste of how Tanzanians live and work in Arusha.

Days 4-5
Tarangire National Park

Drive to the baobab-covered plains of Tarangire National Park. This is Tanzania's fourth largest park offering diverse wildlife and scenery including dramatic baobab trees. In the evening, enjoy the campfire at your Nyumba with millions of stars overhead.

Day 6
Ngorongoro Highlands

Continue your journey by heading west, stopping in the diverse and culturally-rich town of Mto wa Mbu. Enjoy the scenery of rolling hills and vibrant colors as you make your way to the Ngorongoro Highlands. Arrive at Gibb’s Farm in the afternoon, where you are sure to enjoy the serenity of this lush and extraordinary oasis.

Indulge in spa services and various optional activities at Gibb's Farm (additional fees apply).

Day 7
Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater is a geological marvel boasting several vegetation zones from lakes to forest to savannah. It is home to about 30,000 animals, despite its tiny size of only 10 miles across. Enjoy a full day exploring the crater floor.

Day 8
Ngorongoro Highlands

Today you’ll have time to explore and visit with local people to increase your understanding of Tanzania's cultural diversity. You’ll make new friends in the community while hearing about their history, and you’ll have time to take advantage of the amenities Gibb’s has to offer. Follow a traditional Maasai healer through the grounds of Gibb’s Farm on an Indigenous Medicine Walk.

Days 9-10
Serengeti National Park

Continue onto Serengeti National Park, home to literally hundreds of thousands of hoofed animals, the Serengeti is a pristine and unique sanctuary that will give you a glimpse into “the world as it was in the beginning.”

Join an optional hot air balloon ride to take in sweeping views of the Serengeti from above. (Advanced reservations and additional fees apply).

Days 11-12
Eastern Serengeti Nature Refuge

Make your way to a private nature refuge, a remote and pristine region located east of Serengeti National Park. Its unique geography and its location outside the park make it a perfect destination for discerning guests who wish to enjoy a true wilderness and exploration experience. It is here that you will gain further understanding of Tanzania’s famed Maasai tribe. Travelers will have an unforgettable experience when they visit a local women's group to witness how the women have started to plan for the future of their families. Cultural exchanges with your new Maasai friends continue as you gather around the campfire at your Nyumba to share stories.

Day 13-14
East Serengeti to Arusha / Return to North America

Fly back to Arusha on a scenic flight, where you’ll enjoy a farewell lunch at River House, a community-based nonprofit organization. After lunch, visit the adjoining arts center to see the craftsmanship of local disabled artisans, whose training is funded by River House. Relax in a day room before your flight home.
