Day 2:
(Breakfast /./.)
The day is devoted to a tour of Luang Prabang. You start the tour at Wat Aham and Wat Visoun, the oldest in the city. Then it’s on to That Mak Mo (shaped like a watermelon) it was built in 1504 and restored by Henri Marchal (immortal conservator of Angkor). Next you pass by Wat Xieng Thong, probably the most beautiful temple, which is located at the northern tip of the peninsula. As you pass from temple to temple you have the time to discover the local people going about their daily business. You continue exploring the city with its narrow alleys that blend old colonial houses and patches of greenery dominated by palms.
Lunch (not included) can be taken in one of the many restaurants in the peninsula.
The afternoon begins with Wat Na Mune (built in 1533 & restored in 1920). You continue to Wat Aphai, which legend tells us was once called Wat Hay Padek, which means the “Monastery of the Jar to Padek” (a kind of thick fish sauce). Your tour continues with Wat Phraphoutthabat, the monastery of the footprint of Buddha and Wat That, the monastery stupa. Next you go to Wat Xieng Mouane and Wat Chum Khong, the last Lao building in the Xieng Khouang style. In the late afternoon, you climb to the top of the That Phou Si to discover the most beautiful panorama of the city and await the glorious sunset over the Mekong.
Dinner (not included) and overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 3:
(Breakfast /./.)
At first light (before breakfast), you can witness the “alms ceremony” – a parade of many monks through the old city to collect donations from villagers. Warning: Many tourists fail to respect this ritual! We therefore ask you to respect the monks and listen carefully to the instructions of your guide. After breakfast, you visit the National Museum (the former Royal Palace) in Luang Prabang. Next it’s Wat Mai, Wat Manorom, which according to local legend it was founded in 1375 by King Sat Sene Thay and Wat That Luang which is the cremation place of the highest dignitaries of the Royal Family.
Lunch (not included)
In the afternoon, you leave the peninsula to make for the Kuang Xi Falls. This stunning cascade is natural beauty spot and offers the chance to take a refreshing dip. This is one of the favorite places for the people of Luang Prabang; lovers go there to recite poems following Laotian tradition & families also come to picnic and relax in times of extreme heat. You return to Luang Prabang.
Dinner (not included) and overnight stay at your hotel.
