Itinerary
Day1:
Welcome to Costa Rica.
You will be met on your arrival at Juan Santamaria International Airport by a tour representative and accompanied to the charming Hotel Villa Tournon located near the centre of San Jose. Dinner on your own, at the hotel or in San Jose. The Costa Rica is also known for its excellent coffee, and at some restaurant it will be possible to have a short introduction to all the different types and processes of this world renown drink.
We will overnight at Hotel in San Josè Down town.
Day 2:
The adventure begins!
Transfer by local flight from San Jose to Palmar, ground transfer to Sierpe village were you will board a small boat that will take you along the Sierpe River (look out for the endangered American Crocodile basking in the sun on the banks of the river!), we will meander through one of the most important Pacific Coast Mangrove swamps to then enter the Pacific Ocean crossing Drakes Bay to finally reach our destination, Rancho Corcovado Lodge, a small, but enchanting, family-run Lodge. It is delightfully situated on a rocky bluff overlooking Caño Island, Drake Bay and the Pacific Ocean Beyond. The owners are model hosts and superb cooks. We marvel at the sunset and chat with fellow guests over dinner - freshly caught BBQ'd fish is often on the menu (vegetarian meals are also available).
Overnight at Rancho Corcovado. (B, L, D).
Day 3:
Exploring the Corcovado National Park.
After breakfast we will take a boat trip to San Pedrillo Ranger Station in the famous Corcovado National Park; described by The National Geographic to be -the most biologically intense place on Earth. - We have all day to explore this wonderful section of the park looking for wildlife, giant trees and also have the possibility to visit a fantastic waterfall hidden in the deep rainforest.
Refreshing dips in the natural pools below the waterfall is a must! We will return to Rancho Corcovado in the afternoon. Overnight at Rancho Corcovado (B, L, D).
Day 4:
Marin life and History at Caño Island Biological Reserve.
Today we will visit the Caño Island Biological Reserve. After a short boat trip we will land on the white sandy beach of this island that in ancient times was also a sacred burial site for the indigenous populations and it is possible to spot through the thick vegetation some of these burial sites. Snorkeling is a must as the crystal clear waters permit a fantastic view of the schools of fish that inhabit the waters around this island. Overnight at Rancho Corcovado (B, L, D).
Day 5:
Back to San Jose
Unfortunately it is time to return to what is known as civilization!
We reluctantly salute our hosts Rancho Corcovado and begin our return trip to San Jose. Enjoy shopping, and or cultural sight in San Jose! (B)
