Get up close to Australia’s wildlife in its natural environment and see the scenery of eucalyptus tree forests and amazing rock formations for which Australia is famous. Many people find themselves never seeing a kangaroo in the wild in Australia, let alone a koala, kookaburra, dingo, or platypus - but not so with JOURNEYS! You’ll meet the locals (people AND animals!) and experience real Aussie culture. We have planned this excursion in the southern areas specifically for Australia’s summer months (winter for us in the northern hemisphere) when weather in the Northern Territory and the tropical coast is extremely hot and rainy - although it’s a perfect trip for any time of year.

This trip captured our souls and will live with us forever.  Our daughter still talks everyday of the Masaai people in the Sinya camp who carried her during our stay.  Our son bores anyone who comes through our door with our slide show.  We all look at our pictures and pinch ourselves…..were we really there?!  Did we really watch and listen as a mother lion “spoke” to her cubs and they sassed back?  Did we really see giraffes, monkeys, elephants and zebra….all in the same spot?!  Could we really see for hundreds of miles across the savannah?!  Could the sky hold any more stars and has the Milky Way ever been clearer?!  Could the people have been any nicer!?  It is all like a magical dream…

These environments provide the perfect introduction to Australia's unique wildlife. See kangaroos in large free-roaming groups. Spot emus, wallabies, koalas, and other unique Australian wildlife and enjoy a delicious bush lunch. The Brisbane Ranges are home to a large and healthy population of wild koalas, and you are unlikely to miss out on multiple sightings of these delightful creatures. Your guide will also share with you the great significance of the Western Plains to aboriginal people, and you will discover the rich aboriginal heritage of Australia.
