This is the Peru that you have always heard about. The stunning lost city of Machu Picchu, the archaeological treasure trove that is Cusco to the mysterious "riddle in the desert" of the Nazca Lines. We will ride along the world's highest navigable lake of Titcaca and literally walking on water when we visit the floating reed islands of Uros, eyeball the massive Condors as they raise on the thermals within the deepest canyon on earth, the Colca Canyon. Stare in awe we ride amongst dormant snow capped volcanoes and ride into the Andes proper crossing a 5000mt/16400ft pass as we go, but wait there's more, ride with us and see what all the fuss is about.

I wanted to send a quite note to all the Compass Team to say thanks. I
thoroughly enjoyed the tour and sincerely appreciate the efforts of Leo,
Tarvo and Andy. These guys really went the extra step in ensuring that
everything went smoothly on the trip. Thanks also to all those who
assisted in organising the tour, it really was as good as I hoped it
would be.
I hope to able to do another tour with Compass in the future but will need some time for funds and annual leave to recuperate!
Thanks again

What an amazing tour. Given that neither of us have done more than farm
track and car park gravel before, to say it was hard work was an
understatement, but with leo's guidance, a real learning experience.
Leo, was awesome. Lots of knowledge, very friendly, always smiling,
great sense of humour, first class person. Tavo could not do enough to
please everyone, what a great guy. Andy, tried so hard to please, very
friendly guy a real asset to the team. As for the Compass organisation -
wow. Nothing was not thought of, every little detail was covered. The
support & backup were first class & I doubt could not be
bettered. As for the locations & scenery! Patagonia was always
somewhere as a young rock climber I always wanted to come to but never
got the chance, now I have seen the best of it with Compass, it has
gone way beyond my expectations, a wonderful & enchanting place.
This trip has inspired us to do more. We will be riding with you again for sure, now we have coped with some tough terrain.
Thankyou again for one, if not THE best experience of a life time
Itinerary
Week one
Leaving the city of La Paz, elevation of 3660mt/12000ft, we ride the beautiful Altiplano before crossing into Peru. Riding along the shoreline of Lake Titicaca we shall arrive at the lakeside city of Puno where we shall spend two nights, enabling us to visit the amazing floating Uros Islands. Travelling west the ride will take us into the Andes crossing the 4319mt/14170ft pass of La Raya before reaching the wonderful Incan city of Cusco. Built on still visable Incan foundations this city was referred to as the "Naval of the universe" by the Incans. We shall ride the incredible Sacred Valley, dotted with enourmous Incan ruins before catching the train to the legendary Machu Picchu. Nothing can prepare us for the splendour of this iconic sight. A full day will be spent exploring this magical antiquity before spending another day in Cusco perhaps enjoying a beer at the famous Nortons Rats biker bar that overlooks the beautiful Plaza de Armas.
Week Two
We hit the dirt roads as we ride towards the worlds deepest canyon at Chivay, Colca Canyon will provide us with the best oportunity to see the giant Condors. This ride is magnificent as we get well off the "Gringo Trail" riding amongst volconoes and mountains in this spectacular desert landscape. It is within these very mountains that the mighty Amazon River begins its journey to the Atlantic. Descending out of the Andes we arrive at the "White City" of Arequipawith the snow capped volcano of El Misti looming above. We have a day to explore this beautiful city with arguably South America's finest Plaza de Armas and visit the Santa Catalina Convent. The route from Arequippa leads us to the coast where we ride the stark, impossibly rugged, coastal road that clings to the mountainsides. We spend a night a Puerto Inca surrounded by a moonlike landscape as the Pacific pounds the small bay. Our final ride day brings us to the town of Nazca via the macabre Chauchilla cemetery. In Nazca we shall enjoy a flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines, the only way to really appreciate them, before transferring to Lima.
