I wanted to send a quite note to all the Compass Team to say thanks. I
thoroughly enjoyed the tour and sincerely appreciate the efforts of Leo,
Tarvo and Andy. These guys really went the extra step in ensuring that
everything went smoothly on the trip. Thanks also to all those who
assisted in organising the tour, it really was as good as I hoped it
would be.
I hope to able to do another tour with Compass in the future but will need some time for funds and annual leave to recuperate!
Thanks again

What an amazing tour. Given that neither of us have done more than farm
track and car park gravel before, to say it was hard work was an
understatement, but with leo's guidance, a real learning experience.
Leo, was awesome. Lots of knowledge, very friendly, always smiling,
great sense of humour, first class person. Tavo could not do enough to
please everyone, what a great guy. Andy, tried so hard to please, very
friendly guy a real asset to the team. As for the Compass organisation -
wow. Nothing was not thought of, every little detail was covered. The
support & backup were first class & I doubt could not be
bettered. As for the locations & scenery! Patagonia was always
somewhere as a young rock climber I always wanted to come to but never
got the chance, now I have seen the best of it with Compass, it has
gone way beyond my expectations, a wonderful & enchanting place.
This trip has inspired us to do more. We will be riding with you again for sure, now we have coped with some tough terrain.
Thankyou again for one, if not THE best experience of a life time
Itinerary
Week one
We start off in the art and cultural capital of Australia, Melbourne before travelling out to our office in Ballan for a half day bike familiarization ride through the Lerderderg forest and surrounds before riding south for our first night at Apollo Bay. Riding out we are soon on one of Australia’s most spectacular rides as we travel the Great Ocean Road that hugs the coastline through rainforest, magnificent rock formations and past historic fishing villages. We spend a night at Port Fairy, not that far from the Great Ocean Road’s most famous sight of the 12 apostles. Crossing into South Australia we visit the stunning Coorong National Park and enjoy a fishing expedition where we have the chance to catch salmon, mullet, shark and stingray, amongst other species of fish. We ride on to the Adelaide Hills that will provide us with some of the best twisties of the entire journey as we ride amongst vineyards and historic sandstone villages. Next on the agenda is the Barossa Valley, Australia’s best known wine region offering a landscape of vine covered hills dotted with historic villages, a wine tasting can be enjoyed in Miranda Winery, one of the Barossa’s best boutique wineries.
Week two
We continue north and ride onto the stunning Flinders Rangers and the jewel in its crown, the Wilpena Pound, an area of sheer cliffs and jagged rocks that change colour with the different times of the day. Two nights are spent at the iconic Australian pub the Prairie Hotel at the wonderfully remote Parachilna allowing a full day to ride the magnificent dirt tracks and ghost gum lined canyons of the Flinders Ranges. We then ride Australia’s most iconic outback journey, the Birdsville Track, passing the world’s longest fence, the Dingo fence, camping out here overnight surrounded by a carpet of stars that you can almost touch are memories that will remain with you forever. We cross into Queensland and enter Birdsville itself, stopping for a well earned beer at Australia’s most famous pub. Onward to Boulia, this is Min Min light country, those mysterious lights that hover above the surface; many believe these lights are UFOs. The ride continues on through the vastness of the Channel Country and onto the “real Australian” city of Mt Isa. Turning west we ride the empty Barkley Highway that snakes through the vast Barkly tablelands, through Camooweal. Continuing west we stay a night at the wonderfully remote Barkly Homestead.
Week three
We cross into the Northern Territory, a vast land of epic landscapes and utter wilderness, where we visit Daly Waters and spend two nights at Katherine allowing us time to relax and visit the mighty Katherine Gorge, a 20 million year old sandstone gorge located within the Nitmiluk National Park. Leaving the red desert landscape behind we enter the tropics and spend two nights in Jabiru, located within the UNESCO world heritage listed and world famous Kakadu National Park. It is here we can see an amazing array of Australian wildlife including crocodiles and a plethora of bird species, along with some utterly stunning scenery and an incredible wealth of Aboriginal rock art history. Our last day sees us riding into Darwin, spectacularly located on the shores of the Timor Sea, it is more of a laid back country town than the Territories Capital.
