Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in San Jose
Upon arrival to San Jose, you will take a 5-minute cab ride to meet your shuttle for the transfer to La Fortuna at the base of Arenal Volcano. Overnight at Casa Luna Lodge or similar.

Day 2 – La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano
Today, you will have the opportunity to explore the Arenal Volcano region. Arenal Volcano is the youngest and most active volcano in Costa Rica. On a clear day, you can see it spewing smoke after hearing it rumble. Relax this evening with a soak in the thermal hot springs of Eco Termales. Overnight at Casa Luna Lodge or similar. (B)

Day 3 – Monteverde Cloud Forest
This morning, you’ll be met at your hotel for a morning transfer to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The transfer includes a boat ride across Arenal Lake (the country’s largest lake) and a journey up the infamous Monteverde road. Located in the Tilarán Mountains, Monteverde is one of Costa Rica’s premier eco-travel destinations. The forest is famous for its lush epiphytes and tree ferns and its elusive resplendent quetzals. Overnight at Hotel Heliconia or similar. (B)

Day 4 – Monteverde Cloud Forest
You have the entire day to explore the Monteverde area. We recommend an optional morning visit to Monteverde Biological Reserve where you can hike the park’s trails teeming with life. Be sure to stop by the Hummingbird Gallery near the reserve’s entrance for close-up views of several hummingbird species, including the violet sabrewing (Costa Rica’s largest hummingbird). This afternoon, we’ve planned an adrenaline-packed adventure that includes soaring high above the canopy on a zipline and a bird’s-eye view of the towering forest on suspension bridges. Overnight at Hotel Heliconia or similar. (B)

Day 5 – Manuel Antonio
This morning, you’ll be met at your hotel for a transfer to the Pacific Coast near Manuel Antonio National Park. Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast is famous for its beaches and stunning sunsets. Overnight at Si Como No or similar. (B)

Day 6 – Manuel Antonio
Today, you will have all day to explore the Manuel Antonio area on your own. Manuel Antonio National Park is a charming combination of rain forest, beaches and coral reefs. The park is home to abundant sloths, iguanas, and monkeys. Don’t forget to check out the butterfly gardens and amphibian ponds on site at your hotel. Overnight at Si Como No or similar. (B)

Day 7 – San Jose
After a final morning near Manuel Antonio, you will be met at your hotel and transferred back to San Jose. The rest of the evening is on your own to explore the capital city of Costa Rica. Overnight at Hotel Don Carlos or similar. (B)

Day 8 – San Jose
Transfer to San Jose International Airport for flight back to the U.S. (B)
