Trinidad ~
a small Caribbean island located less than 10 miles off the coast of Venezuela. The island’s habitats combine the flora and fauna of the Caribbean and the wilder aspects of the South American mainland. Species lists for Trinidad are impressive. Checklists include 97 native mammals, over 430 bird species, 55 reptiles, 25 amphibians, 617 butterflies, and more than 2,200 species of flowering plants. No other area in the West Indies, and few areas of comparable size in tropical America, can match this spectacular species diversity.
Tobago ~
packs a surprising diversity between its coastal fringes. Visitors are encouraged to explore the island’s deserted beaches, pristine coral reefs teeming with life, and lush rainforests.
Leatherback Sea Turtles ~
the largest marine turtles on earth and also one of the world’s most endangered animal species. Leatherbacks face a variety of threats including habitat loss, fishing lines and nets, illegal egg poaching, and plastic debris floating in their ocean environs.
