Our experience with Equator Trekking was nothing short of phenomenal. Mateo's knowledge and charisma were the perfect formula for an eye-opening, educational, and most importantly fun trip. It felt like we got to see all different aspects of Ecuador-- from the booming metropolis to beautiful small towns to wilderness. We definitely plan on returning and working with Equatortrekking.com again in the future. Thanks, guys!

The trip organised by equatortrekking.com was professional from start to finish, and lots of fun in-between! Mateo had organised many exciting activities, from horse-riding in the Andes to canyoning in Banos. The instructors he used were first class - very skilled, patient and friendly. Exactly what an action-loving, though not necessarily experienced, traveller would want.
Although we only had five days, Mateo managed to ensure we saw a wide variety of what Ecuador has to offer, including its magnificent volcanoes, lush landscapes, stunning beaches, along with an insider view to the Ecuadorian people - hardworking, but relaxed and warm.
All in all, the trip to Ecuador was one of the best press trips I've experienced and I can't recommend Mateo and his team highly enough.

I had a wonderful time in Ecuador, and would love to come back as soon as I can. I didn't realise how much the country has to offer, but Mateo and his team did an excellent job of showing us the sights and making sure we were well looked after! I highly recommend any adventure holiday trip with them, especially one that takes in the beautiful coast."

Itinerary

Day 1 Quito-Climbing Pasochoa Volcano (4.200 m / 13.779 ft):

Early departure to the southeast of Quito towards Pintag, pass Antisanilla and arrive to the base of the volcano (approximately 3 hours). We will set up a camp base; have lunch and a free afternoon to adapt to weather conditions.

Day 2 Climbing Rumiñahui Volcano (4.722 m / 15.492 ft):

The Rumiñahui has three peaks: North, Central and South. The north peak is the highest and in combination with the South peak represents a greater technical difficulty for ascending. The walk through the central part is ideal to reach the top (15,190 feet). Early in the morning, we will head towards the Limpiopungo Lagoon to begin our ascent. Our climb will take us through highlands, sands and rocks as we climb to the top of this impressive volcano. From the top there is an incredible view of the Cotopaxi, the Sincholahua, the Antisana, the Chimborazo, the Ilinizas and the Corazón. Our ascent will take us between 4 to 5 hours and approximately 2 additional hours to descend. This evening's accommodation will be at a nice lodge near Cotopaxi National Park.

Day 3 Climbing North Iliniza Volcano (5.126 m / 16.817 ft):

The North Iliniza Volcano will be the highest peak we climb before the Cotopaxi. With its 5,126 meters of altitude, it is a rocky and occasionally snow covered climb. The red sands and the vegetation of the highlands will surprise you; and if weather allows, we will have and incredible view of the avenue of the volcanoes. This evening's accommodation will also be at the lodge.

Day 4 Quilotoa Lagoon Trek (3.899 m/12.795 ft):

The Quilotoa Volcano Lagoon is located in the Province of Cotopaxi, Parish of Zumbahua and is part of the Ilinizas Ecological Reserve. Trekking around the crater has a spectacular view of the blue and green glimmering lagoon of Quilotoa. This lake is one of the most beautiful volcano lakes in the Ecuadorian Andes. We will hike 4 hours through rocky regions, flowered highlands, native forests, and sands; always with the marvelous view of the intense turquoise colored lake. This evening's accommodation will also be at the lodge.

Day 5 & 6 Climbing the Cotopaxi Volcano (5.897 m /19.347 ft):

Day 5 & 6 are the most important days of our adventure. By now you are accustom to the height and ready for the climb to the top of the Cotopaxi. This evening accommodation will be in the Refuge of the volcano and from here we will start with an early morning walk. It is a surprising experience for anyone with a love of mountains, nature, sports and adventure! You will take along a special sensation and emotions never before experienced! In the evening you will return to Quito.
