Itinerary
Day 01: Arrive
Arrive in Lhasa; transfer to hotel, free time to walk around the town and acclimatize. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day 02: Lhasa
Walk the pilgrimage route around Potala Palace; visit Potala Palace, the symbol of Lhasa; visit Norbulinka (the former summer residence of the Dalai Lama); visit a Tibetan hospital and consult local expert. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day 03: Lhasa
Take a stroll onto Barhkor Street, part of the worshipers pilgrimage circuit. Visit Jokhang Temple, considered the most significant religious structure for all Tibetans, where many pilgrims pay homage to their faith each day. Shuttle short distance to seldom-visited Pabongka Monastery. Explore Sera Monastery, a place for worship and the most famous academy in Tibet. Will be an opportunity to see the monks debate there. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day 04: Lhasa – Yamdrok Lake – Gyantse
Drive to Yamdrok Tso Lake and walk around the holy. Drive to Gyatse, notable for its magnificent tiered Kumbum (literally 100,000 images) of the Palcho Monastery, as well as its charming architecture and picturesque rural landscape. Visit Palcho Monastery and walk around in the small town. Overnight in Gyantse.
Day 05: Gyantse – Shigatse
Drive Shigatse, the Tibet’s second largest city, and home to the Panchen Lama; visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the ancient residence of the Panchen Lama and his official seat; visit local Tibetan’s home to converse with the family members to gain a more personal and grounded understanding of their daily life. Overnight in Shigatse.
Day 06: Shigatse – Shegar (New Tingri)
Drive 240km to Shegar (altitude 4,350m), the journey takes about 6 hours, passing through numerous peaks and valleys with Gyatsola; pass (5,220 m) being the most notable; en route, visit Sakya Monastery, the chief monastery of the Sakya Sect built in 1073. Overnight in Shegar.
Day 07: Shegar – Rongphu
Visit Rongphu Monastery (5,030m), the highest temple in the world, sitting among spectacular scenery with the Everest; drive over Pang La (5,120m) for a breathtaking view of several peaks in Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Mt. Everest. Overnight in Rongphu.
Day 08: Excursion to Everest Camp
Hike to the Everest base camp (5200m) (approximately 7 km); drive to Tingri, a small Tibetan town located in the side of a hill; appreciate the last glimpse of the magnificent vistas of Mt. Everest. Overnight in Tingri.
Day 09: Tingri – Zhangmu
Drive to Zhangmu, the Tibet/Nepalese border town, as well as a major trading post between Tibet and Nepal. The journey takes about 7 hours. Explore Zhangmu town. Overnight in Zhangmu.
Day 10: Zhangmu – Kathmandu
Transfer to the border at Friendship bridge; drive to Kathmandu (6 hours). Overnight stay.
Day 11: Kathmandu
Explore the city of Kathmandu. Overnight stay.
Day 12: Depart
Transfer to airport and connect your flights back home. End of Service.
