The Nicaragua Mobile Library Project provides resources to students and community members in the town of San Juan del Sur and the surrounding areas.  The library offers educational enrichment programs for pre-schoolers, textbooks for reference and study for older students, and an environment conducive to reading and studying for all.

Additionally, the San Juan Del Sur Mobile Library runs the Library in a Box program, which mentors other groups wanting to start lending libraries and offers a 100 book seed collection to get the projects off the ground.  Volunteers are always welcome to help with both the Library in a Box Program as well as to keep the library in San Juan del Sur running smoothly.

Why is this project needed?
Nicaragua is a country with a rich oral history, but written culture has been slow to develop.  The Mobile Library is the only lending facility within a 75 mile range.  As book lending is not tradition in Central America,  only the wealthy have regular access to books, textbooks, computers and life skills needed to succeed in a world of written culture.  Only half of the students in San Juan del Sur have their curriculum's designated text books.  With Planeterra's support to the Mobile Library, a generation of students will have a better chance of succeeding in school and in the work force.

DONATE to help create a reference library
For a total of $8000 Planeterra can help the San Juan del Sur Mobile Library project set up a reference library of curriculum textbooks to each rural school in its district.  As only 1/3 of children in rural areas surrounding San Juan del Sur have access to textbooks, donating to this project will have a huge impact on the students in these communities.
