Itinerary
First day
During the first stop of the tour you will visit the art city of Arezzo: you can admire this city of art with its most important monuments such as the Cathedral, in Tuscan Gothic style, which preserves important works, including the "Maddalena" (the Magdalene) of Piero della Francesca and the stained glass of William de Marcillat.
Programme of the day:
• tour of Arezzo
• Lunch
• guided tour of the Cathedral
• htl accommodation
• Dinner and overnight
Second day
Afterwards, always during the stay in Arezzo, you will have the possibility to visit the beautiful Church of San Francesco, a fourteenth century building with frescoes of the "Leggenda della Vera Croce” (Legend of the True Cross) of Piero della Francesca, a member of the second generation of painter-humanists, whose works are wonderfully suspended between art, geometry and a complex system of multi-level reading, where sophisticated theological, philosophical and topical issues meet.
You will also visit the house-museum of Giorgio Vasari, dating back to the sixteenth century, an extraordinary example of "artist's house". The artist has personally executed the painting decorations in the elegant apartment, revealing still today the artist's intention to have a specific programme for the celebration of art, artists and himself.
Programme of the day:
• Breakfast served in Htl
• Church of San Francesco: guided tour
• Lunch
• House Museum of Giorgio Vasari: guided tour
• Dinner and overnight
Third Day
Visit of Sansepolcro, once called Borgo del Santo Sepolcro (Village of the Holy Sepulchre), it is the most populous centre of Valtiberina Toscana (Tuscan Tiber Valley) and the birthplace of Piero della Francesca.
Sansepolcro’s museum contains the artist's masterpieces, such as the "Polittico della Misericordia” (Altarpiece of Mercy), the "Risurrezione di Cristo” (Resurrection of Christ), "St Giuliano", "St. Ludovico".
It will be possible to see all these beautiful works through a guided tour of the Museum, as well as the visit of the village, discovering its typical local handicrafts and tasting its typical local products.
Programme of the day:
• Breakfast served in Htl
• Sansepolcro: guided tour
• Lunch
• Museum: guided tour
• Typical local handicrafts
• Tasting of typical local products
• Dinner and Accommodation in Htl
Day Four
Visit of Monterchi, a village perched on an isolated hill, called in the past Mons Herculis (Mount Hercules), overlooking the hills of the Valtiberina, in search of the "most secular" sacred work of Piero della Francesca’s artistic career: the "Madonna del Parto". The painting dates back to 1455 - 1465 and was executed by Piero della Francesca in honour of his mother, Romana di Perino da Monterchi who came from that place.
The fresco, originally executed for the Chapel of Santa Maria di Momentana, is now kept in the Museum of the Madonna del Parto of Piero della Francesca. This work is certainly the "most secular” sacred work, but at the same time it brings us closer and makes us part of that extraordinary event of Jesus birth, making present and visible that past event.
After the visit of Monterchi, there will also be the possibility to enjoy the shopping in the famous Prada outlet in Valdarno area.
Programme of the day:
• Breakfast served in Htl
• Visit of Monterchi and of Piero della Francesca’s work "The Madonna del Parto"
• Lunch
• Prada Outlet: Shopping
• Dinner and overnight
