Depart the USA for Rome, Italy.
SATURDAY, APRIL 28 (UMBRIA)
After our arrival in Umbria, transfer to our charming
hotel by motor coach. Get settled and enjoy a welcome
dinner at our hotel/villa. (D)
SUNDAY, APRIL 29 (UMBRIA)
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at our hotel. Travel to the wine
town of Orvieto—once a center of Estruscan civilization.
Take a guided tour of the city, including its cathedral, one
of the wonders of the medieval world. Then spend time
on your own exploring this fascinating town. (B)
MONDAY, APRIL 30 (UMBRIA)
Following breakfast, explore more of Umbria’s preserved
medieval hilltowns, including Spoleto to sample their
cuisines and local wines. Later return to our country
hotel and enjoy a relaxing meal prepared with fresh, local
ingredients. (B,D)
TUESDAY, MAY 1 (UMBRIA)
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and later, visit the artistic
centre of Italy and its university town, Perugia. Spend
time on your own exploring this beautiful town, famous
for its chocolate. (B)
WEDNESDAY, MAY 2 (UMBRIA)
Travel to Assisi and get settled in our hotel. Get
acquainted with this charming medieval town on a
guided tour that includes a visit to the famed Basilica
di San Francesco. Spend the afternoon wandering the
streets in the footsteps of St. Francis, Assisi’s patron saint.
Later, enjoy a medieval-inspired dinner in the country
accompanied by a lecture of Calendimaggio, Assisi’s
famed festival that celebrates the arrival of spring. (B,D)
THURSDAY, MAY 3 (ASSISI)
Awake to the church bells of Assisi. Following breakfast,
spend the day discovering two of the most charming
neighboring Umbrian towns, Spello and Bevagna. Later,
return to Assisi to witness the opening of the three-day
Calendimaggio festival where the town is transformed
into an open-air theatre of medieval scenes, including
song, dance, games and food. During this festival,
residents of the upper and lower parts of the city
compete for the “Palio”. (B)
