Upon your arrival in “Egoli" - the City of Gold, your EJ Africa representative escorts you to your SAA flight (Saturdays only) to Pemba.  As you gaze at the azure waters below, remember that Ibo Island has been a fortified trading post since the 1600s, with influence from Arabs, Chinese, Portuguese and French.  Ibo Island has been described as one of the most unique and atmospheric islands in the world and is the gem of the Quirimbas Arichipelago -- nominated for World Heritage status.

 Start your adventure by exploring ancient Ibo Island from the comfort of beautiful Ibo Island Lodge. Days 3 / 4 / 5 ~ Kayaking from Ibo Lodge

 Explore a coastline fringed by tropical islands on an ancient Arab dhow with a personable and knowledgeable guide.

Dazzling bird life abounds with storks, egrets and herons roosting in thick mangrove branches. Mobile beach camps set up on pristine islands offer wonderful swimming, peace and exploration.  The Quirimbas National Park encompasses bush land with elephant, lion, leopard, wild dog and rare sable antelope. At sea there is yet more diversity - many rare species and unrivalled coral gardens surround the islands.   In the coastal area there are five species of turtle, humpback whales and whale sharks, as well as the endangered dugong. Just off the beaches there is a huge diversity of reef fish - Napoleon wrasse, parrot and trigger fish swarm in the rich waters that embrace the coral reefs.  In its short existence new species of fish have already been discovered off its shores.

Days 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 ~ Guludo Beach Lodge

 Kayak or Sail back to the mainland and arrive at the unique setting of Guludo Beach. Set amongst the glorious landscapes that lie along the northern reaches of the Quirimbas National Park, the beach is sandwiched between the Indian Ocean and the African bush, making it a haven for an incredible diversity of wildlife.

With a wealth of options to choose from, make the most of this tropical paradise. With a fully equipped PADI dive center on hand, there are a number of choices available for diving and exploring some of the most pristine coral reefs in the world. Amongst these clear, calm turquoise waters you will find reef fish of every shape, size and color, along with turtles, sharks and coral gardens of breathtaking scope and variety. There are also optional village tours and sunset sails, while behind the resort stretches a fertile expanse of African bush that is home to elephant, antelope and primates.

With a wealth of child friendly activities such as snorkeling, archery, kayaking, SCUBA (min. 10 yrs) and the opportunity to interact with local children, Guludo makes a brilliant destination for families.  In addition to enjoying all the beauty of Guludo, you’ll notice the wonderful people working there and living in the nearby village.  The owners of Guludo Beach Lodge have created an innovative and sustainable model to relieve poverty and protect the local environment.
