During your 3 nights at Desert Rhino Camp you will have the thrilling experience of tracking desert-adapted black rhino on foot and in 4X4 vehicles. The area of rolling, rocky hills is home to the largest free-ranging population of black rhino in Africa. Its freshwater springs support healthy populations of desert-adapted elephant, Hartmann's mountain zebra, giraffe, gemsbok, springbok, kudu and predators such as lion, cheetah, leopard, brown and spotted hyaena. This is game viewing at its best.. far from the madding crowds with some of the most knowledgeable guides in Namibia.
A flight to Namibia’s northern boundary takes you to one of the most exotic and beautiful areas in Africa. You’ll spend three nights at Serra Cafema. This luxury camp on the Kunene River lies within the homeland of the exotic Himba people, who have preserved their ancient nomadic style of life and dress. Explore sand dunes on all-terrain vehicles, the Kunene River on boat excursions, and the remote desert mountain and river valleys on foot. Return to the beauty of your exquisite accommodation each evening.

Itinerary
Day 1/2/3 - Damaraland - Desert Rhino Camp
Depart on your flight to Palmwag Rhino Camp, a luxury mobile camp run in conjunction with the Save the Rhino Trust in the private Palmwag area of the rugged northern Damaraland. The area presents endless vistas across stark plains, ancient valleys and soaring peaks. The brooding mass of the Brandberg provides a focal point, almost 62 miles to the south. The camp offers a brilliant insight into the ecology and conservation of this incredible area and at the same time contributes directly to the Trust and ultimately the sustainability of this vulnerable area and its wildlife population in the region, and to bring benefit to the community through conservation and tourism.
Activities here include rhino tracking on foot or by vehicle, night drives and full day outings (with a picnic lunch) on the concession. The area covered while tracking black rhino and other wildlife is massive. Bird life is prolific and diverse with most of Namibia’s endemics present. Your trackers will show you how to follow animals and field researchers will teach you about ecology and animal behavior.
Day 4/5/6 - Kunene River - Serra Cafema
Located near the Angola border, Serra Cafema is the most remote camp in Southern Africa. The camp’s Portuguese name comes from the mountains to the north that dominats the skyline. This region is shared with the wonderful Himba people who are some of the last true nomadic people in Africa.
The Kunene River is the only permanent source of water in the whole region and the river creates a lush oasis along its banks surrounded by rugged mountains and sand dunes. You will spend time in breathtaking landscape scenes in the Hartmann Valley, to the south of the camp, with herds of springbok, ostrich and even leopard. Traverse sand dunes on 4x4 safaris and explore the Kunene River on boat excursions where one can watch Kunene crocodiles basking the river banks, while looking out for Southern Africa's rarest bird, the Cinderella Waxbill. Walking trails in the remote mountain and river valleys are a highlight for those who enjoy foot safaris.
