Antarctica is the planet’s last untouched continent and you can now experience it from one of the most advanced expedition ships ever built. This voyage will take us through the Drake Passage, escorted by albatrosses and storm petrels before arriving at the magical white landscape. Itinerary
Wednesday, January 9: Arrive Buenos Aires
Arrive Buenos Aires no later than 3:00pm. Group transfers based on arrival times provided. Relax or go exploring until we meet at 6:00pm for introductions. Overnight Hotel Emperador (5 Star with Spa) - 2 nights.
Thursday, January 10: City Tour of Buenos Aires; Evening Tango Show with Dinner (D)
Buenos Aires has been the gateway to Argentina for centuries. They value their European heritage highly--Italian and German names outnumber Spanish, and the lifestyle and architecture are markedly more European than any other in South America. See why this fair city has been called the "Paris of South America" as we take a guided tour of the highlights of the city this morning. The rest of the day is yours to explore before we head out this evening for a Tango show with dinner.
Friday, January 11: Fly to the tip of South America & Board your Ship (D)
Morning transfer to the airport. Our charter flight leaves Buenos Aires in the morning which gives us a few hours for leisure in Ushuaia, the southernmost town in the world before our voyage departs from the Island of Tierra del Fuego in the afternoon. After the included excursion to Ushuaia National Park, we board the ship at 5:00pm.
Saturday and Sunday, January 12-13: Drake Passage (B,L,D)
Named after Sir Francis Drake this stretch of water between South America and the Antarctic Peninsula has numerous myths and legends connected to it. The extraordinary seaworthiness of MS Fram ensures you a safe and comfortable passage and we encourage you to join our educational lectures en route.
Monday thru Thursday, January 14-17: Antarctica (B,L,D)
Once we have crossed the Antarctic Convergence you will start feeling the air getting crisper and colder. You will begin to see Antarctic penguins in the water and don’t forget to be on the lookout for the first iceberg. There are no permanent human inhabitants but it is home to millions of penguins and the feeding area for thousands of whales. Words simply cannot describe the feeling of being on the Great White Continent. The ice, wind and weather dictate life in Antarctica as well as our route. Every voyage is unique and our experienced crew will make all voyages an experience of a lifetime. The final choice of landings will be made in the course of the voyage. Two landing a day are scheduled, depending on conditions that day.
Friday and Saturday, January 18-19: Drake Passage (B,L,D)
As the bow points north you will have time to reflect on your Antarctic experience with its unforgettable sights and sounds.
Sunday, January 20 - Disembark Ship; Fly Ushuaia/Buenos Aires (B)
After a spectacular voyage with countless impressions, we dock at the world’s southernmost town before transferring to Ushuaia airport for our charter flight to Buenos Aires arriving around 2:30pm.
