Test your stamina and endurance against one of the highest mountains in the world. There are a variety of climb routes to reach the snow capped summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Equipment includes Trango 4 tents (double occupancy), sleeping bags and thermal liner (rated for -30°F ), pillow, 3 inch foam mattress, mess tent with backed chairs and a toilet/wash tent with a portable toilet. Whether you are a novice or veteran, the extreme altitude requires preparation from all participants and a reasonable level of personal fitness.

Itinerary

Day 1, Arrive Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
Upon arrival today, you are met and transferred to your hotel for overnight. You'll have time to sort your equipment for an early start the next morning.

Day 2, Forest, Machame
This morning, drive to the Kilimanjaro park gate at Machame village. The day is spent walking towards the Machame Hut. Depending on the weather conditions, this can be a moderate to demanding day; count on a minimum of 4 - 5 hours. The camp is pitched around 10,000ft.

Day 3, Forest, Shira
This morning, cross valleys, streams and ridges on your way to into the alpine moorland of the Shira Platuea. The views and foliage can be breathtaking - and you just may see some of the local wildlife as well. Camp is pitched near the Shira Hut, around 12,600 feet.

Day 4, Barranco Valley
Today's walk reaches a high point of 13,000 ft. and then the path turns downward for the remainder of the days hike. The path down to Barranco Valley can be particularly rewarding and the view of Kibo Peak is truly spectacular. This evening, camp is sited around 13,000 ft.

Day 5, Karanga Valley
Today, ascend the Barranco wall and across the scree and ridges into the Karanga valley, approximately 13, 450ft. Camp is reached in time for lunch, allowing plenty of time to relax and go for a short acclimatization walk in the area.
KARANGA VALLEY CAMPSITE

Day 6, Barafu
From Karanga, head up a moraine ridge taking your time and going slowly. Again, you reach camp, approximately 15,400 feet, by around lunch time leaving lots of time to prepare and relax. In the evening your guide briefs you for the final ascent.

Day 7, The Summit / Mweka
The attempt on the summit occurs at night in the very early morning. Each climber is assigned a summit guide to ensure that everyone makes it to the top, or returns as required in complete safety. At Stella point you can then choose to return - you are after all already higher than any point in Africa! Otherwise, continue to Uhuru peak at 19,343 feet. Most people then start returning quite soon after sunrise, as the return journey today is quite long. Camp is pitched at Mweka at around 10,170 feet.
MWEKA CAMPSITE

Day 8, Arusha
Today you descend to the Mweka Gate and then continue by vehicle to your hotel. It's time to relax, take a hot shower or a swim in the pool to celebrate the achievement of conquering Mount Kilimanjaro.
ARUSHA HOTEL

Day 9, Arusha / Departure
Today you are transferred to the airport for your onward departure flight.
