This tour takes us through the beautiful French-speaking Eastern Townships of Quebec, and treats us to gorgeous vistas, pretty villages, spectacular easy-to-intermediate biking and excellent inns.

We begin our tour in Vermont, cycling past classic farms and covered bridges before entering the historic Canadian village of Frelighsburg where we begin to immerse ourselves in the culture and beauty of this unique area. We visit the Musee Missisquoi in Stanbridge East and the ancient twelve-sided Walbridge Barn in Mystic. We ride spectacular Chemin Gaspe, passing the beautiful equestrian facilities of the 1976 Olympiad. Much of our tour is along Quebec's "Routes des Vins" allowing us several opportunities to visit some of Canada's most celebrated vineyards, including L'Orpailleur and Domaine Les Brome. We ride along the dedicated bike paths of Quebec's famous Route Verte, paralleling the shore of Lac Boivin and the majestic Choiniere in Parke Yamaska.

Our tour includes one night at the luxurious Hotel Chateau Bromont, giving us the chance to discover the historic village of Bromont and its many shops, restaurants and the famous Musee de Chocolat. We also get a chance to explore the celebrated resort towns of Knowlton and Sutton whose main thoroughfares are lined with bistros, specialty shops and galleries. We end our tour by riding through the tiny mountain community of Abercorn before re-entering the United States in Richford and cycling the last few miles along a bike path and winding road into Montgomery Center.

Itinerary

This tour takes us through the beautiful region where the northern boundary of Vermont merges into the French speaking Eastern Townships of Quebec. You are treated to gorgeous vistas, pretty villages, spectacular biking, and excellent inns. We begin (and end) at The Phineas Swann in Montgomery Center, Vermont. This beautifully restored 1880's farmhouse is now considered one of the most romantic inns in America (Trip Advisor).

MONDAY'S RIDE:

Monday we cycle into Canada, passing some ofMontgomery's famous covered bridges before arriving in French-speaking Frelighsburg. From here we ride to Pigeon Hill, have a special lunch at the Windsor Heritage Museum in Stanbridge North, visit the fascinating Musee Missisquoi and then begin to follow Quebec's famous "Route des Vin". We have several opportunities to stop and sample the wines and ciders at some of Quebec's most famous vineyards, including Opailleur and Domaine des Cote D'Ardoise and enjoy a tasting of cider wines and apple products at the renowned Cidrerie Fleurs de Pommiers. Monday night we are the guests at the beautiful Aux Douces Heures in Dunham. This newer B&B treats us to exquisite rooms and excellent meals.

MONDAY NIGHT: AUX DOUCES HEURES
TUESDAY'S RIDE:

Tuesday takes us through beautiful rolling terrain to Mystic where we visit the twelve-sided Walbridge barn and Museum and then to Farnham where our route crosses the Riviere Yamaska on a former RR bridge that takes us high above the river. We then take a scenic route along Ch. Gaspe where we gain spectacular views of the area as we pass the equestrian fascilities that were home to the 1976 Olympics. Our destinatio is the pretty village of Bromont where we can explore its many shops and the delicious Musee de Chocolat before arriving as guests at the elegant Chateau Bromont. Dinner is on your own this evening either at the chateau or one of several fine local restaurants.

TUESDAY NIGHT: CHATEAU BROMONT
WEDNESDAY'S RIDE:

Wednesday takes us on part of Quebec's famous Route Verte, a series of inerconnected bike paths that have made this area a mecca for cyclists. The path takes us along the shore of Lac Boivin, around Reservoir Choiniere in Parque Yamaska, and through the village of Waterloo. We then cycle through the tiny village of Fulford before arriving at Auberge du Joli Vent near Lac Brome. Hans Christiner and Patricia Provencher will welcome you here to their award-winning small inn and you will delight in the pleasant rooms and Hans' celebrated cuisine. While here we will take time to visit the reasort town of Knowlton whose main thoroughfare is lined with bistros, restaurants, specialty shops and bakeries.

TUESDAY NIGHT: AUBERGE DU JOLI VENT
THURSDAY'S RIDE:

Thursday, our easy ride, takes us past Domaine Les Brome, one of the most celebrated wineries in Canada that has stunning views over the lake and mountains. We then ride southerly taking either a leisurely route to Sutton, or a more lengthy ride through the Missisquoi Valley. Sutton is a celebrated resort town located in a pretty river valley. It has a vibrant main street with sidewalk cafés, galleries, craft stores, and specialty shops, as well as excellent restaurants. Tonight we stay at the Le Pleasant Hôtel and Café, and the recent transformation of this Victorian heritage property into a handsome and modern boutique inn has resulted in rave reviews. Tonight we take an easy walk to Bistro Beaux Lieux to have a celebratory feast.

FRIDAY'S RIDE:

Friday's ride takes us south through the tiny mountain community of Abercom where we might indulge ourselves at the great little bakery (Boulangerie Croissanterie) before re-entering the United States at Richford. Our last few miles are partially along a pretty bike path and then a winding road, passing covered bridges before arriving back at the Phineas Swann Inn.
