The Owyhee River in South Eastern Oregon is easily the most remote and arguably the most scenic, river trip in the state. Both customers and guides who float through the deep "Grand Canyon-esque" gorges of this river come out in awe of this isolated place. The scenery of the Owyhee River will stick with you in the weeks and months after your journey and when you find yourself closing your eyes and floating through the canyons again weeks later the relaxation you felt on the trip will sooth back through you.

Our Owyhee trips are 5-days of whitewater, scenery, hiking, hot-springs, and relaxing away from anything that resembles civilization. If we time things correctly at least one night will be in a camp with a hot-spring pool to relax in, which can be really nice on the brisk high dessert nights of April and May. We will hopefully time our days to include hikes into Pruitt's Castle and the Chalk Basin and for stops to see Native American petroglyphs, many over 8,000 years old. These trips are small and the season for this river can be as short as a few weeks so sign up today and be one of the few that get's to enjoy the "Grand Canyon of Oregon" on the Owyhee River.

"Eric, I missed you on our return back to the shop following our three day Rogue River Kayaking trip. Wanted to let you know what an outstanding time my family had and thank you and your team for such a great adventure. This was our first time on the river, and the first time going down a river in our own boats. It was exciting, interesting, relaxing, all wrapped up in a single trip!
Thinking back, there were a number of things that made the trip great besides the scenery and the river:
    Guides
Clearly, this makes or breaks the trip, and our guide team, led by Mike, were outstanding in their knowledge of the river, ability to work with client's range of abilities, and their general good spirits in making the trip fun while focussing on safety.
    Equipment
The kayaks were great, but so was the large supply raft which my wife and daughter traded between. It was a good balance for them, while I liked the kayaks end to end.
    Lodging/Meals
Although I hear the camping trip on the Snake River is a good time, it was nice to get some lazy boy treatment at the lodges along the river; great hospitality, hot shower, soft bed, and great food.
    Good company
Icing on the cake was the group you put together 20 clients from different parts of the country with various backgrounds. This made it fun and interesting to connect with people you might not otherwise get the opportunity to converse with. With my family ranging in age from 14 to 50, we all found this a bonus.
My wife and kids can't wait to receive your DVD, as the pictures and video shows of our group were fun to watch at the lodge on the 2nd night. Anyway, I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that this was a great value and something we will look forward to again!
Thanks again, to you and your team. Paul"

"I just wanted to send a quick e-mail to thank you for a great trip last weekend. It was amazing as always! Everything was perfect: guides, water, weather, food, drink, lodges etc. As much as I thought I was going to miss not having some of my old favorite guides on the trip it was great to meet some new folks! Jen, Bill and Ted were new to me this year, however certainly not new to the river (I couldn't believe the years of experience on the water the crew had). They were great both on and off the water! Always good to see Hose, Tim and Grant, they are truly people that I look forward to seeing and spending time with every summer. I was telling Travis that I want to grow up to be Tim some day, unfortunately I think I missed my window. Those of us in the service industry don't always hear positive feedback and I want you to know that you and your crew have got this thing dialed in. The whole thing is really first rate and your staff provide great customer service (either you do a great job of hiring or there is just something about river guides (maybe a little of both)), that was my fourth OTT trip and you are batting 1000! Again, thank you for all that you and your staff do, you have provided me with life time memories!
    Dan"

Itinerary

The trip starts at the raft launch site in Rome, Oregon. We offer a Boise pickup option for those who would prefer. If meeting in Rome please arrive around 10:30 AM Mountain Time. At the put-in we will supply you will all of your needed river gear including: Dry bag for your gear, wetsuit, splash-top, helmet, and a PFD. We will have additional drybag or dry box space if you have something you would like to bring. When you are all packed we will have a thorough river skills and general trip orientation to help prepare you for this high dessert adventure.

Day 1:

The first 5 or so miles of this trip takes you through eastern Oregon farm land where missing gravel bars and choosing the right path around prairie islands are the real challenge. At about 5.5 miles the river suddenly comes around a corner and goes from flat farm land and into a narrow, vertical walled river gorge making the first spectacular canyon of the trip. In the afternoon the group will find a nice camp for spending the evening. Most camps in this part of the canyon mix spectacular scenery with steep hikes to impressive vistas.

Day 2:
In the morning the group will float into Sweetwater Canyon and the white water will begin. Multiple class III rapids including Long Sweetwater, Upset, and Bulls Eye keep things exciting and require you to focus back on the river and stop taking in the scenery. Around lunch the group will float into Weeping Wall Springs where under ground springs poor water from the vertical rock wall. This is a great spot to fill your water bottle with true spring water. The afternoon has two very exciting class III rapids leading into a camp with a hot spring pool in one-direction and some of the best hiking on the Owyhee in the other. Hikes into Pruitt's Castle and the Chalk Basin will lead you to some of the most spectacular views of the trip. Horizontal bands of different colors make obvious layers in these unique formations created under a shallow lake 10 million years ago. As on all nights, relax after dinner around the campfire and share stories with your new friends before crawling into your tent to spend the evening.

Day 3:

Today is an exciting day. Today the group will go into the heart of the Owyhee Canyon, officially known as Green Dragon Canyon. In this canyon solid rock walls climb right out of the water to almost 1000ft over you. As in any tight gorge we start to run into some great white water to keep us busy between pools where we turn our heads skyward to try and take in the grandness of this spectacular canyon. In the inner gorge the group will paddle through two class III rapids before coming into the only true class IV rapid of the trip, Montgomery (however in an inflatable kayak it's really more of a III). Not far below Montgomery we will come into a camp in the heart of the gorge.

Day 4:

Wake up and watch the sun slide down the 800ft vertical wall based right in camp. As the rays from the sky reach our little beach and start to warm your skin we will prepare to put back on the river. By this point all the stress of your day to day life has been long forgotten and you have become fully invested in enjoying the scenery of the river and taking on the day to day tasks of river life. Waking up, eating, running the river, finding camp, eating, relaxing, and sleeping. It's a great cycle of life and today is just another day. As we come out of the inner gorge of Green Dragon Canyon we will float into our class III rapids for the day including Nuisance which makes for an exciting rock garden. The afternoon today is filled with class II rapids which will always keep you on your toes. If everything works out, tonights camp is a guides favorite. With amazing scenery, hiking, and a hot-spring pool this is one of the best riverside camps anywhere.
Day 5:

About 12 miles will bring the group to the top of the lake where we will strap the rafts together, drop the motor, and slowly putt across the reservoir and the takeout. From here we will return you to either Boise or Rome.
